Is Moon Knight season 2 happening? (Will there be Moon Knight season 2?)

Following the Moon Knight season 1 finale, fans are curious to know if Moon Knight season 2 is happening.

After six glorious episodes, Moon Knight season 1 finally came to a close on May 4 with the release of the show’s sixth episode. It was yet another amazing episode that did a perfect job of bringing a close to the season’s central storylines while leaving the door open for future adventures featuring the characters introduced across the show’s first season.

Now that the season is over, there are a lot of burning questions on the minds of fans but none more pressing than whether the series will be coming back for another season or if we’ve truly seen the last of Moon Knight.

It’s a valid question to be asking. After all, to date, Disney has only formally renewed one of its live-action Marvel Disney Plus series for a second season that series being its breakout hit Loki. We know the show was originally billed as a limited series, but could it follow in Loki‘s footsteps to become the second Marvel Cinematic Universe-set Disney Plus show to return for a second season?

Will there be Moon Knight season 2?

At this time Marvel has not yet announced a second season of Moon Knight; however, there is a good chance a second season of Moon Knight is happening!

Following the events of the episode, we were treated to a post-credits scene that finally introduced Marc’s third personally, Jake Lockley in a scene that is sure to keep fans talking. It’s made clear that Jake is Khonshu’s new avatar as evident when he abducts Harrow from a mental institution and seems to then kill him in the back of a limo per Khonshu’s command.

While the episode did not end with a message such as “Moon Knight will return for season 2,” it’s clear Marvel has plans to continue the character of Moon Knight’s story and a renewal seems imminent.

When could we see Moon Knight season 2 release on Disney Plus?

The absolute earliest we could see the second season of Moon Knight arrive on Disney Plus would likely be 2024, and even that might be wishful thinking.

We’ve yet to see a second season of a Marvel Disney Plus original release on Disney Plus making it hard to lock down the timeline for how quickly Marvel Studios could turn out a second season of one of their shows. However, given the massive connective universe that Marvel must balance the wait between seasons is expected to be a long one.

Loki was renewed for a second season on July 14, 2021, and filming is only just gearing up to begin on the series this summer with the series not expected to arrive until at least 2023.

While we’d love to see a second season arrive next year on Disney Plus, it just doesn’t seem feasible though Marvel could surprise us as they’ve done in the past. Once we have any idea when season 2 might arrive, we’ll be sure to let you know but we wouldn’t recommend getting your hopes up for a 2023 release.
