Alright, we’ve warned you. Let’s get into unpacking that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness post-credits scene!

Doctor Strange 2 post credit scene explained

After the events of the movie, the credits roll and we are treated to a mysterious post-credits scene that seems to set up a potential third Doctor Strange movie.

In the scene, a mysterious being wearing a purple and black mystical ensemble shows up as Stephen Strange is seen walking down a street in New York. The character tells Strange that she’s tracked him down after he caused an “Incursion Event” which he’s needed to help fix.

She then conjures up a purple-hued magical weapon of sorts which she uses to tear a hole in the fabric of reality leading into what appears to be the Dark Dimension. The character tells Strange he must come with her to save the day, which he agrees to. We see a glimpse of his third eye once again and the pair enter the portal just as the scene fades to black.

Who was at the end of Doctor Strange 2?

The mysterious character who shows up in the Doctor Strange 2 post-credit scene is Marvel Comics character Clea, who is played by Charlize Theron.

In the pages of the Marvel comics, Clea is a sorceress with a rich and romantic history with Doctor Strange. Heir to the Dark Dimension, Clea first crosses paths with Doctor Stange in the comics when Doctor Strange makes his way to the Dark Dimension to battle Dormammu.

The two eventually become romantically involved with Clea becoming Doctor Strange’s romantic partner and disciple, often battling alongside him as a trusted ally. Whether Marvel will adapt this story or take creative liberties with the character in the MCU remains to be seen.

Who is Charlize Theron in Multiverse of Madness?

Although it was not made initially clear in the post-credits scene, Charlize Theron will be playing the character Clea in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character is one that Doctor Strange comic fans have been longing to see appear in the MCU and whose inclusion has been rumored leading up to Multiverse of Madness — with Emma Watson linked to the role via fan-casting.

Theron’s involvement in future MCU projects remains unclear, but fans should get excited about the opportunity to see her fully explore the character of Clea within future MCU projects!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, May 6.
