Isabela Merced is the newest actor to join the Madame Web movie
By Mark Lynch
Isabela Merced is the newest actor to join the Madame Web cast for Sony Studios Spider-Man universe.
The Madame Web casting started with Dakota Johnson. She was the first person cast in project and she will be playing the lead character (Madame Web). Instead of being just a blind clairvoyant, Sony is making her their version of Doctor Strange. Next up was Sydney Sweeny. Euphoria’s star was a smart pickup for Sony. Celeste O’Connor (from 2021’s Ghostbusters and Freaky) will also appear in this film. Another great addition to the movie.
It’s still unknown who the latter two performers will play. With the movie scheduled to debut in 2023, it’s shocking more isn’t known about the project. Nevertheless, it hasn’t stopped production of the movie and the casting. According to Deadline, Sony added one more person to the cast. Singer and actor Isabela Merced is the most recent actor to join Madame Web.
Isabela Merced has been in the live-action Dora the Explorer Lost City of Gold and Transformers: The Last Knight. She’ll also be in a remake of Father of the Bride with Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan coming later this year. As for Sony, they’re coming off Morbius. A movie that’s been received with mixed reviews. If Madame Web is their next project, there’s a lot riding on it.
Sony seems to be going young with its recent casting. Not just young, but they’re going with actors who have potential. Isabela Merced is a singer with a lot of talent. Fans of her music will see the movie just because she’s in it. Sydney Sweeny has the same appeal. People loved her in Euphoria. Maybe not the character, but her performance was always a 10. Celeste O’Connor is an up-and-coming actor who rocked in the 2021 Ghostbusters and Freaky.
The three recent additions alone could make Madame Web a Sony Spider-Man project that viewers may be excited to see. Hopefully, Sony doesn’t mess up what they have. It’s unfortunate that Sony’s Marvel movies’ reputation may have already stained the movie before it starts filming.
