6. He ended the cycle of Ragnarok

Comic book: Avengers Disassembled: Thor

During Avengers: Disassembled, the big three (Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor) all had major comic book stories to follow. Each of them explained the downfall of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes from their perspective. The God of Thunder’s exit came at the expense of his people. However, it’s not as bad as it sounds.

Thor found out that there were beings that were feeding off Ragnarok. When he confronted them, they asked the Odinson to join their council. He refused and destroyed the machine that fed them. This gave his people one final battle. After dying in a glorious death, Thor slept. A slumber that was short lived.

5. Brought the Asgardians back

Comic book: Thor (by J. Michael Straczynski Vol. 1)

While the God of Thunder slept, Mjolnir landed on Earth (read Fantastic Four: The Hammer Falls for more on that). Donald Blake came back to the land of the living and grabbed it before anyone else worthy could. This transported Blake to Thor. After explaining that the world needed him, the Odinson came back to the land of the living to prove his legacy wasn’t a lie.

First, Thor brought back Asgard. Then he realized that his kingdom is nothing without its people. He brought back Heimdall who helped lead him to the other Asgardians. When danger struck the lost gods of Asgard, Thor flew to space and brought them all back in one swoop. This was an incredible feat of strength that nearly killed him.
