The beloved shapeshifter from X-Men: The Animated Series, Morph, is now a Marvel Legend in action figure form.

One of the most compelling and beloved characters in X-Men: TAS is being recognized as the Marvel Legend he is by Hasbro. The toy company known for its giant robots is adding the shapeshifting jokester Morph as a special addition to its Marvel line.

Marvel’s Morph gets new action figure

According to Hasbro Pulse, the figure inspired by the 90s toon stands six inches and comes with several points of articulation, making Morph super-posable on your shelf like many memorable collectibles of the era.

Decked out in his yellow and blue uniform and bomber jacket, he also comes with changeable heads and sets of hands to reflect his good and bad sides. Fans will recall in season 2 of the cartoon, a brainwashed Morph returned from the dead to do Sinister’s bidding, his eyes darkened and sunken.

This feature is a subtle nod to Toy Biz X-Men figures of the day which included a set with a Morph accompanied by alternate heads of his teammates. Hasbro’s VHS box-and-variant cover-inspired packaging, showing the hero running from a burning building with a smirk, is another sly tribute to the animated series — in this case, to the home video releases that were prevalent during season 1.

Damaged Goods

Based on an ill-fated character named Changeling, Morph was not originally meant to live past the first season and his sacrificial act in the pilot episode, “Night of the Sentinels.” However, X-Men: TAS’s broadcast home — the Fox Network — had other ideas.

So Morph came back “damaged” and vengeful before going on to having one of the most complex storylines in the show’s history. Free of Sinister’s influence, he tried to return to action in the field but discovered he had severe PTSD and a phobia of Sentinels after all he’d been through.

He took his leave again until the series finale but may experience a comeback in X-Men ’97 when it picks up where its predecessor left off. Slated for Disney+ in 2021, no specific debut date is locked in for the new series yet.

The Morph figure in Hasbro’s Marvel Legends line is available for pre-order at a price of $27.99. Other figures announced for the line include X-Factor member Strong Guy Guido, and late 90s X-Men team member Maggot.
