There has been a lot of change within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent years, particularly when it’s come to the departures of many actors who helped build the franchise up into what it has become today.

From Robert Downey Jr. to Chris Evans, many Marvel icons have hung up their suits of armor and shields. In doing so, the future of many of our favorite actors has come into question, and understandably so.

While some stars’ futures in the MCU have only just begun, others are now years into their tenures in the MCU which has created some concerns among fans regarding which of their favorite characters could soon be leaving the MCU. Among those who fans seem to be developing a growing concern over is Anthony Mackie — who last appeared in 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. 

Is Anthony Mackie leaving the MCU?

Fear not, Anthony Mackie is not leaving the MCU — at least, not anytime in the near future. Following his stint in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which saw him transition into the role of the MCU’s new Captain America, Mackie is set to reprise his role in Captain America 4. 

As first reported by Deadline back in August 2021, Mackie has signed on to star in a fourth Captain America film which will see him return as Sam Wilson in the yet-to-be-titled film. Beyond the film, it remains uncertain whether Mackie will remain within the MCU.

While Mackie will be remaining in the MCU, he will technically be replaced which is likely what has led many to question his future with Marvel. With Mackie’s character taking up the mantle of Captain America, a new Falcon is expected to be introduced and the running theory is that Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Danny Ramirez will be the one to take up the Falcon mantle.

In the comics, Joaquin Torres takes up the mantle of Falcon from Sam Wilson and ends up becoming his sidekick in battle. Considering Ramirez was introduced as Torres in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the running assumption is that he’ll take up the role of Falcon in the MCU.
