Marvel Zombies: 10 characters we could see in the Disney Plus show
By Mark Lynch
The Marvel Zombies are making their way to Disney Plus sooner than you think. In that universe, who becomes a hero, villain, or zombie?
2022 San Diego Comic-Con announced a few Marvel Studios projects. Among them are Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, two seasons of What if…? and when X-Men ‘97 will make its debut. Other news included a release date for Marvel Zombies, a series that promises to be vastly different from the comic book and the Disney Plus show What if…?
Comic book fans may remember the series for showing goofy and gory versions of their favorite characters. If you saw the episode of What if…?, you saw Marvel characters that look and act like the zombies we’re used to witnessing.
Which version of them will appear in the Disney Plus series remains to be seen, but one thing for certain is that viewers will witness multiple Marvel Comics characters’ arrivals in the series. Some of them will be undead and others won’t.
What characters could we see in Marvel Zombies?
10. Scarlet Witch
There’s no way Marvel Studios would deprive their fans of Wanda. She was too popular in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If this writer had to guess, Wanda will be the key to saving the universe from the zombie plague after Doctor Strange is killed after sending other heroes on a journey. Look for Wanda to start off as a zombie and be one of the first to be changed back into a human.
9. Yelena Belova
Florence Pugh became a popular Marvel Cinematic Universe character when she appeared as Yelena Belova in Black Widow. So much that people wanted more of her in Hawkeye of Disney Plus. That popularity will lead her to appear in Marvel Zombies.
This writer doesn’t believe that she will be a zombie in this project. She’ll most likely be part of the team trying to save the world. Well, at least that’s what her team will think.
8. Sharon Carter
If anyone is going to be a villain in this it’ll be Sharon Carter. She’ll be the one sending information in a world without a lot of resources. Because of that, she will seem like the villain, obsessed with luxury and sacrificing people to get things done. Also, while the heroes of the world believe that things can go back to normal, Sharon Carter won’t agree. She’s going to say that this is the new normal and everyone should just deal with it.
7. Iron Man
One of the Avengers has to be a zombie and it will be Tony Stark. There’s no doubt in this writer’s mind that Iron Man is going to be a flesh-eating, undead monster. The question is which zombie we’ll see. Hopefully, he’ll be like the comic books. This way, Iron Man will be the same we’ve known and loved except he’ll be eating people. A regular zombie in Iron Man would be a waste.
6. Ms. Marvel
If there’s going to be a team of young heroes trying to save the world then Kamala Khan will be there to help. She may even lead the team. Kamala is too innocent to be a zombie. Not only that, Ms. Marvel needs to be seen leading a team. There’s no better place for viewers to see her leadership skills than in a post-apocalyptic world. She’s another person who’s guaranteed to appear.
5. Scott Lang
Scott Lang is like Iron Man in this situation. He’s too fun of a character to just be a random zombie. He has to make jokes and be clever. Paul Rudd should return and be the silliest of all the zombies. However, don’t be surprised if he starts off human and ends up being turned. Most likely because he was protecting his daughter (Cassie Lang) from an onslaught of the undead.
4. Hawkeye
Hailee Steinfeld is on the list of actors who truly brought their comic book character to life. She had all the personality and skill as Kate Bishop in the comics. It showed that she has a bright future playing Clint Barton’s protege and possible replacement.
It seems like it would be easy for her to do it in animated form. Especially since she’s Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. There’s likely to be a scene where Kate is forced to put an arrow through Clint’s head. A moment that may turn her into Ronin.
3. Wilson Fisk
If there’s something or someone that can be taken advantage of, Wilson Fisk is involved. He has an uncanny ability of finding a way to profit from everything. It doesn’t matter that it’s the end of the world. The Kingpin needs to make money.
While Sharon Carter could do things on an international level, Wilson Fisk would be the Kingpin on the east coast of the United States. People like Echo, the Tracksuit Mafia, and maybe even Daredevil would all work for him. Daredevil may do it because it helps people. The other because they believe and trust their boss.
2. Spider-Man
Peter Parker is the only other person that could lead a young team of heroes. It may make more sense than Kamala since he’s been a hero longer and has actually been an Avenger.
At this point, Peter may have probably given up on his secret identity after seeing his aunt and MJ turned into zombies and having to kill them. There’s no way they didn’t turn. However, in the comic book series, Spidey was a zombie who has a nervous breakdown after he realizes he’s eaten a person (among them were his aunt and MJ). Either one of these scenarios is possible and could work in a show.
1. Deadpool
This is a long shot that could actually come true. Wade Wilson hasn’t made an appearance in any of the MCU projects and we also don’t know when Deadpool 3 will be released. Nevertheless, both of his movies are now on Disney Plus, and having him in this show provides two things.
First, and the most obvious, is entertainment. Deadpool has been a zombie before. It could happen again. He could even go back to being Headpool. Second, it’s a way for MCU fans to get reacclimated with the Merc with a Mouth before he returns to theaters.
