Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct major Marvel Studios project Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. A movie that could change the direction of his career forever.

Marvel’s announcement of Phase 5 during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con rocked the world. Comic book movie and television fans were given multiple projects that will have an impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among them is season 2 of LokiAgatha: Coven of Chaos, and Captain America: New World Order.

After Phase 5, Phase 6 will begin with the long awaited Fantastic Four movie. That would be enough to satiate any movie goer. But Marvel Studios gave them more. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was confirmed, along with the fact that it will be coming to theaters May 2, 2025.

There’s even more great news involving the Avengers film. According to The Hollywood ReporterShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ director Destin Daniel Cretton will helm the project.

With the help of Destin Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi grossed  $432 million worldwide. An accomplishment that needs to be praised. Shang-Chi isn’t a comic book character like Spider-Man, Superman, or Wonder Woman, but the project deserved every dollar it made and more. Shang-Chi has been a great character in Marvel Comics for a while. All he needed was the right creative team behind him to make the jump to the big screen and he got it. If that’s what Destin Daniel Cretton can do with Shang-Chi, imagine what he’ll do for an Avengers franchise.

First, Destin Daniel Cretton will likely ensure Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has high quality action and fight scenes. Shang-Chi And The Legend of the Ten Rings did have the classic giant CGI fight scene at the end of the movie but the rest of the action was better than most of the Marvel Studios movies. It was more imaginative. This writer expects more of this from the Avengers and their enemies in the upcoming film because of Cretton.

Lastly, Destin Daniel Cretton returning to direct a major Avengers film is another major step forward for representation in the field of major motion pictures. The director is of half-Japanese descent. Asian people will be able to look at him and see themselves, and know what they are capable of. If he can direct a movie for a billion dollar industry, why can’t they? A message that will inspire people for generations.
