This writer has said multiple times (and he’ll continue to say it) that Brian K. Vaughan is a name you can trust when it comes to comic books. He’s responsible for some of the most iconic comic book titles of all time. Saga, Runaways, and Y: The Last Man are only a few of them. The latter may not have had a good go on Hulu, but that wasn’t his fault. The source material is a ten out of ten.
Thankfully, another one of his projects is on the right streaming service. Brian K. Vaughan’s Paper Girls has been adapted to TV on Amazon Prime Video.
Paper Girls is a 2016 comic book that starts in the late 1980s. Like the comic, the show will follow Tiffany Quilkin (played by Camryn Jones), Erin Tieng (Riley Lai Nelet), Mac Coyle (Mac Coyle), and KJ Brandman (Fina Strazza). All of them are paper girls and the first girls to hold that title in their town. It sounds normal, until all of the time-travel shenanigans and things begin. When that happens, the comic book picks up in a big way and never stops with the action and drama.
Paper Girls season 1 expectations
Never doubt Amazon Prime Video when it comes to producing a comic book project. Releasing all of Paper Girls all all at once is a brilliant decision. If it’s like the comics, the first episode may seem slow to some viewers. If that happens with a project that’s weekly, fans will check out. However, with everything already there, people are more likely to keep watching or go back to it sooner. Since this has a very Stranger Things feeling, and people loved bingeing that show, it only makes sense to debut the show this way. Plus, not all shows are built for a weekly release.
Because this is Amazon Prime, expect a lot of cursing, blood, and more. Paper Girls isn’t an overly adult show like The Boys but it isn’t meant for all ages either. Expect mature subject matter throughout, and some compelling storytelling to go along with it.
