Is Young Justice season 5 going to happen on HBO Max? What is the show’s current renewal status?

Young Justice is, without question, one of the most popular animated TV shows of all time. Beloved for both its complex and mature storytelling, and its ability to juggle a large amount of characters at once, it has remained a fan-favorite for over a decade. The question is: Will it return for another season?

The show has had quite the history on air. It originally aired on Cartoon Network for two seasons between 2010 and 2013 before its unjust cancellation (which had nothing to do with ratings). It was then revived by the DC Universe streaming service for a third season, Young Justice: Outsiders, that debuted in 2019.

It was then subsequently renewed for a fourth season, Young Justice: Phantoms, which was moved to HBO Max after the DC streamer evolved into a comics-only service.

Young Justice season 5 has yet to be confirmed by HBO Max. While the reception to the fourth season was, once again, incredibly positive, and the show seemed to maintain popularity throughout the run, the show has not yet been renewed for a fifth season.

Co-showrunner Brandon Vietti reminded fans that the show’s future is not certain as of yet when he responded to a fan on social media who asked when the renewal would happen, answering with “I think the first question is “if” not “when”.”

Naturally, fans have been watching all four seasons on HBO Max in the hopes that the streamer will announce a renewal – a callback to the “KeepBingeingYJ” movement six years ago when the show arrived on Netflix (a movement that was likely responsible for its revival later that year).

It’s important to remember that Young Justice remains one of the most popular animated shows right now, and its fanbase was able to bring it back from cancellation. Given its popularity, and the fact that there is clearly more story to tell, it’s unlikely that HBO Max would make the same mistake Cartoon Network did all those years ago.
