Namor in Marvel Comics

The King of the seas being a mutant holds a lot of weight in the comics. For one, he has ties with teams that only a few people do. He’s friends with the Fantastic Four, an Avenger, and has been an X-Man. Charles Xavier even asked him to be a part of Krakoa. The latter usually requires someone to be a mutant to join them. Beings like Juggernaut have been the exception to the rule. In Namor’s case, he’s a full fledged member because he’s actually a mutant. One of the few with the DNA of an Atlantean and homosuperior (mutants).

Bringing his mutant side into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the best way to build upon the foundation laid in the season finale of Ms. Marvel. Viewers didn’t see this revelation coming. In the comics, Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, is an Inhuman. Since the Inhumans series didn’t work out, making her a one of them would have been a mistake. As great as Ms. Marvel was, even she couldn’t make the Inhumans cool again.

Dropping that Kamala had mutations in her blood let the world know that mutants weren’t just coming. They’re already here. However, it was just a tease. It did get the job done. After years of wondering when Marvel Studios was going to announce the X-Men, fans can breathe easy knowing that Marvel hasn’t forgotten about them. But will Namor be the next step in bringing them to the MCU?
