This awesome video of Taron Egerton showing his claws as Marvel’s Wolverine highlights just why he would be amazing in the iconic role.

Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine in the X-Men movies has stood the test of time and earned itself a spot among the best live-action superhero portrayals of all time. And with his impending return in Deadpool 3, we’ll get to see him back in the role soon.

That portrayal of Wolverine was a regular presence on the big screen between 2000 (when Fox’s X-Men movie franchise kicked off) and Logan in 2017 (where Logan bowed out). That is, until Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool had something to say about it.

With Disney’s acquisition of Fox a number of years back, the X-Men have finally come home to Marvel Studios – which means a reboot is inevitable so that Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants can make their presence felt in the juggernaut that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And with that reboot likely comes a new actor.

One actor who many fans wouldn’t mind seeing pick up those claws and succeed Jackman as Wolverine is Taron Egerton. The Kingsman star has found himself on many a fan-castings in recent years with many thinking that he would make a great Logan.

What Taron Egerton could look like as the new Wolverine actor

One person who can certainly visualize what Taron Egerton would look like as Wolverine in the MCU is YouTube user Stryder HD. As we’ve seen this talented creator do before, this video, titled a “first look” clip allows fans to see what the actor could be like as the X-Men character.

Using footage from Hugh Jackman’s X-Men movies, the fan video employs DeepFake technology to place Egerton’s face over Jackman’s giving us an idea of what Wolverine would look like if he were to play the role. And it’s a pretty convincing result, particularly the scene in which Logan shows off his claws. It’s safe to say Egerton certainly looks the part as the character!

Is Taron Egerton playing Wolverine in the MCU?

As of now, Taron Egerton has not been cast as Wolverine but his name has come up many times among fan conversations. It’s easy to see why the Kingsman star remains a fan-favorite possibility.

The fan-casting has even caught Egerton’s attention, leading him to address the rumors and it does sound like he’d be interested in a role in the MCU is Marvel came calling.

"“I’ve always said… I don’t know if I’m the right guy to play that part. I was with Hugh [Jackman] yesterday, briefly, who obviously played the role originally. We’re such different vibes. I don’t know if I would be the right person to follow him. But I’ve always said I would be open to it. But at the moment, there’s no truth, other than the fan-casting thing, which goes kind of crazy every time I mention it. But, you know, who knows,” Egerton told Sway’s Universe."

This video is very impressive and it goes without saying that if Egerton ended up getting cast as Logan/Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then we’d be in for a treat if he looked anything like that.

That said, with Jackman’s Wolverine now returning in Deadpool 3, there are questions about whether or not it will be a one time only thing, if he is the MCU’s definitive Wolverine going forward, and if the Deadpool franchise will find a way to exist within the MCU (or just be one the many earths in the MCU’s multiverse). Jackman’s recent comments sound like there could be some multiversal shenanigans around his return, and that might suggest it’s a one-and-done return for the legendary performer. If so, Marvel might bring in a new Wolverine after that.

We’ll have to wait and see, but if the MCU does indeed need a new Wolverine for its mainstream Earth-616 continuity, Egerton would be a great choice!
