Heartstopper season 2 is not coming to Netflix in August 2022

Heartstopper season 2 is on its way but don’t be expecting it to arrive on Netflix this month.

Heartstopper took the world by storm when it premiered on Netflix back in April. Very much the definition of a “little show that could”, the eight-part British drama received critical acclaim, turned its stars Joe Locke and Kit Connor into overnight sensations and has had the world talking about it for months after its debut.

Based on the graphic novel series by Alice Oseman, the show centers on Charlie Spring (Locke), an openly gay student at Truham Grammar School for Boys who forms a close friendship with Nick Nelson (Connor), a popular member of the rugby team. However, their friendship comes with the potential of something more, and it sets the stage for a diverse and uplifting story about young LGBTQ+ love.

Within hours of Heartstopper‘s debut, people were already talking about season 2. It hadn’t been confirmed at that point in time but they wanted it, and in the weeks that came after that, they have been vocal about wanting it on social media. Thankfully, Netflix heard their requests and announced a renewal for seasons 2 and 3 exactly four weeks after the show’s premiere.

If you’re hoping for Heartstopper season 2 to premiere soon, though, August will not be the month that new episodes debut on the service. That said, when can fans expect the second season to premiere.

Heartstopper season 2 release date predictions

Heartstopper season 2 will likely premiere in 2023. An official date has yet to be given, but taking the fact that scripts need to be written and other behind-the-scenes things need to happen before filming can even begin, the most likely option would be early 2023.

Let’s not forget that season 1 (which took just three months to film) wrapped production in June 2021 and the streamer held off on releasing it until April 2022. And with production on season 2 set to begin in September, it’s unlikely that those new episodes will be released before the end of the year.

With that in mind, early 2023 is the most likely possibility for an early Heartstopper season 2 release, but a mid 2023 release may be the much more likely option.
