DC’s Stargirl returns The CW for its third season very soon. Here is everything you need to know about Stargirl season 3.

Stargirl is the light that shined bright twice. Like its Cosmic Staff (or “Cosmo” as it likes to be called now), its light never dimmed throughout its two-season run and that certainly doesn’t look like it’s going to happen come its third.

The former DC Universe series wrapped up its second season run on The CW (now an exclusive to the home of the Arrowverse) back in November and its finale was certainly one for the ages. A goosebump-inducing battle for the soul of Blue Valley ensued between the Justice Society of America and Eclispo as the team of young heroes sought to put a stop to the demon’s reign of terror.

The show may now be exclusive to The CW but the network has immense faith in the property, something that was clear as soon as it renewed it for a third season before its second had even premiered.

Stargirl season 3 premiere date

Stargirl season 3 premieres on Wednesday, August 31 at 8:00 p.m. ET. While fans were hoping it would premiere much earlier in the summer given its success as a summer show, it was held as the network went through a period of change. Now it kicks off the fall schedule, ironically premiering on the last day of summer.

As of writing, all of the main cast is expected to return for season 3. While Courtney is definitely the most important character on Stargirl, the show is very much an ensemble series, so expect all of the supporting cast to return as well.

Moreover, we also know that two former ISA villains will join the series in a full-time capacity, while Joel McHale also joins the series in a regular capacity, reprising his role as Starman!

Stargirl season 3 trailer

The CW initially released a brief TV spot teaser for the third season of Stargirl before unveiling the full-length trailer shortly afterwards. It focuses on the return of Starman, the Justice Society of America’s attempt to coexist with their former enemies and teases new powers for Courtney.

Stargirl season 3 synopsis: What is it about?

The third season of Stargirl is subtitled “Frenemies” as the show’s newest outing will see Courtney and the JSA attempt to work with their former enemies from the ISA, including Cindy Burman and the Crocks.

However, that’s only the beginning of the dangers in Blue Valley this season, as the reason that these former enemies will attempt to coexist all has to do with the apparent arrival of a greater threat as a murder in town forces them all to work together to solve the mystery.

"The third season finds Starman back from the dead and offering to train Courtney while she helps him adjust to his new life in the quiet town of Blue Valley. But when there’s a murder that needs to be solved, the mystery will not only have our heroes questioning the former super-villains’ commitment to truly reforming, but lead Courtney, Pat and Starman to a secret that will shock them all to their very core."
