20 Marvel and Disney characters who deserve their own Disney Plus shorts
By Mark Lynch
17. Chewbacca
Chewbacca is more than a popular Star Wars character. His look and sound are iconic. Like Groot, the audience can’t understand what he’s saying until their best friend translates. A series of Chewbacca shorts could feature a lot of things. Most of it should have been before he met Han Solo. He had an entire life full of adventures before him. Why not continue them? He’s more than just a sidekick.
16. Jubilee
In the 1990s, there was a period where Jubilee may have been the most popular mutant in Marvel Comics. She was the epitome of the ’90s. A mallrat who used cool jargon, skateboarded, and hung around with Wolverine. When X-Men ‘97 returns, so will her fandom.
Who wouldn’t want to see a series of shorts with her on Disney Plus? In fact, maybe shorts are too small of a stage for her.
15. Doctor Aphra
This writer is on record saying that Doctor Aphra needs her own projects. She represents everything that makes Star Wars amazing. It isn’t just the Force, Death Star and the Skywalkers; it’s the fascinating characters and how they move around the universe.
Aphra is highly intelligent. More importantly she’s cunning – so much so that she tricked and trapped Darth Vader. How many people can say that? Her adventures in shorts could lead to her getting a show on Disney Plus. Better yet, maybe a solo movie featuring Triple-Zero and BT-1.
14. Taskmaster
Black Widow didn’t show Taskmaster the kind of respect she deserved. Fighting and almost killing Natasha Romanoff and Red Guardian is impressive, but she never completed the mission. Since this wasn’t her first mission, let’s see the ones where she actually succeeded. Or, and this may be even better, Disney should have a series of shorts of her life after she regained control of it. Either idea works, especially if she does become a Thunderbolt in the future.
