Alison Brie was considered for the role of Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk in the titular show Attorney at Law headed by Jessica Gao. Brie debunks the casting rumors.

Better known in series with the likes of Community, BoJack Horseman, and GLOW, Alison Brie, 39, went on Yahoo Entertainment (H/T: The Direct) to give clarity revolving around her rumored casting in the superhero legal-comedy series spearheaded by Rick and Morty scribe, Jessica Gao, which eventually would become She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

The rumors began at the time when the writer’s room had ended, casting was underway, and filming had been delayed partly due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Daniel Richtman, the infamous scooper of MCU content and a Hollywood insider reported Marvel Studios was after an “Alison Brie type” for the role of Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk.

The phrasing was supposedly part of a casting report. Conflicting reports suggested that Brie was closer to being given the role. Ultimately, that role went to Orphan Black star, Tatiana Maslany.

Alison Brie debunks MCU casting as misinformation

Brie was not only unaware of the casting but in one scenario when she was asked how she keeps up with aforesaid rumors that revolved around both She-Hulk and its anticipated show Attorney at Law. During an interview on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Brie responded about “getting updates” and “fans tagging [her] in things on Instagram.”

The Mad Men actress admitted there is a lot of “misinformation” out there regarding her being cast and Marvel/Disney who have always been coy and playing their cards close to their chest only fuelled the speculations. She told Kevin Polowy of Yahoo Ent that:

"“I have no idea. I don’t know if we’ll ever know if it was legit… it was odd; it was definitely odd. There was like a man… like, in that time period I went to pick up a sandwich at a sandwich shop and there was a man like ‘I just read that you got cast as She-Hulk.I was like, ‘Well, you’re the first one who has told me about it. Maybe I should check with my agents.’ There’s a lot of misinformation going on when it came to She-Hulk. But, you know, Tatiana Maslany is such a talented actress; I’m really looking forward to seeing what she does with it…She’s incredible, I love Orphan Black, I watched every episode of that. I think she’s so talented, and the trailers look so fun, I’m excited to watch.”"

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Benedict Wong, and Jon Bass.

Jessica Gao is serving as showrunner, while Dana Schwartz, Melissa Hunter, Cody Ziglar, Kara Brown, and Zeb Wells are writing the series with Kat Coiro and Anu Valia directing. Gao, Coiro, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Brad Winderbaum are all credited as executive producers on She-Hulk. Marvel Studios is producing the series.
