The Flash season 9 will make its presence felt on The CW in the near-future, but don’t be anticipating the show’s final season this month.

It will truly be the end of an era when The Flash bows out with its series finale. The long-running superhero series has been renewed for a ninth season by The CW but that ninth season will also be the finish line for it, and perhaps the Arrowverse by extension.

The CW made the announcement that The Flash would end with season 9 during the summer, along with the confirmation that it would be a shortened 13-episode final season. The response was, like the announcement, bittersweet, with fans upset at the prospect of the second longest-running superhero show of all time no longer being on the air but celebrating its legacy at the same time.

Yes, the day that The Flash ends will be the end of an era. But that day is not today, this month, or even this year.

The Flash season 9 release date predictions

The CW’s fall schedule has been confirmed but the Scarlet Speedster and Team Flash are not listed on it. The reason being that the network has decided to hold many of its major shows for midseason, with The Flash being one of them.

That means that The Flash season 9 will air in 2023, along with the likes of Superman and Lois season 2, Riverdale‘s seventh and final season, and new DC series Gotham Knights.

The network has been undergoing a bit of an overhaul this year after being sold to Nexstar, but the end of The Flash has seemed like an inevitability for some time now. But we have a little time to appreciate the show before it bows out next year, so best start the rewatch now!

If you’re looking for your DCTV fix in the meantime, DC’s Stargirl season 3 airs on The CW on Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. ET.
