The Batman 2: Natalie Dormer dazzles as Poison Ivy in stunning image
By Cody Schultz
Fans would love to see Poison Ivy appear in The Batman 2 and this image of Natalie Dormer in the role has made them even more excited.
Batman has had a rough few years on the big screen in recent years. After the meh years that were the Batfleck era, the Dark Knight has finally risen back to the top of the DC food chain.
DC bet big on the relaunch of the Batman franchise from director Matt Reeves and that bet has paid off tenfold. With the help of Robert Pattinson, whose take on the character in this spring’s The Batman has been praised as one of the best portrayals of the characters of all time, The Batman emerged as one of the biggest films of 2022 and proved Batman is here to stay.
A sequel was quickly greenlit by Warner Bros. and a spinoff series for HBO Max is in development as Reeves looks to expand upon the franchise.
While little is know about the follow-up project, if Reeves follows a roadmap similar to the Christopher Nolan films, it’s likely we’ll see a variety of iconic villains come into the fold as the foil to Robert Pattinson’s Batman. We saw the introduction of several iconic characters in the first film and it’s expected the sequel will bring another wave of villains into the mix. There are a lot of options for Reeves to choose from, and there’s at least one other major villain fans are hoping to see in the sequel: Poison Ivy.
Not since Uma Thurman played her in 1997’s Batman and Robin have we seen Poison Ivy on the big screen as part of a live-action DC feature film and it’s time for that to change. Ivy is one of the strongest villains in the DC Universe and would make for an incredible opponent for Batman in The Batman franchise if given the chance.
Should DC indeed look to bring Ivy into the fold, they’ll need an actress with a commanding presence. Perhaps it’s why Game of Thrones alum Natalie Dormer has emerged as a fan favorite for the role.
What Natalie Dormer could look like as Poison Ivy in The Batman 2
Clearly inspired by the idea of Poison Ivy returning to the big screen, digital artist Jaxson Derr took to Instagram to give fans an idea of just what Natalie Dormer could look like in the role of Poison Ivy in The Batman 2– and we have to confess, we are obsessed with the concept art!
In the incredible art, Dormer is transformed into Ivy complete with the character’s signature red hair, ivy-colored skin and armored version of her classic costume. The concept seems to have been inspired by the look Ivy donned in Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy which is regarded as one of the character’s greatest costumes.
Dormer was absolutely phenomenal in the role of Margaery Tyrell and there is no denying she would deliver an equally flawless performance as Ivy if given the chance. Plus, it’s high time Ivy make her return to the big screen once again and a role as a key villain in The Batman 2 would be the perfect way to bring the character into the fold.
Will Natalie Dormer play Poison Ivy in The Batman 2?
While we know a sequel to The Batman is in the works, no casting announcements have been made for the film thus far. Therefore, it is unclear whether Poison Ivy will appear in The Batman 2 or whether Natalie Dormer might get the chance to play the character.
Given how many iconic characters Matt Reeves introduced in the first film in his Batman franchise, there is no telling which characters he might choose to introduce next. He has a long list of characters to choose from, but we’d love to see Poison Ivy make her return to the silver screen — and it seems Warner Bros. is hoping for this as well.
Currently, DC has not announced any plans to bring Poison Ivy into the DCEU, but there have been recent rumors that the character is on the company’s radar. In fact, there have even been rumors of a possible Poison Ivy standalone film.
As those rumors emerged before the recent shakeup to the plans for the DCEU, there’s no telling if that project will move forward. If it by chance does not, what better way to still bring Poison Ivy into the mix than by making her the lead villain of The Batman 2?
Should they choose to do so, let’s also hope that Natalie Dormer makes her way to the top of their list as there’s no denying she’d make for a perfect Ivy!
