The Flash season 9 is not coming to The CW in October 2022

The Flash season 9 will premiere on The CW in the future, but it won’t be arriving this month. When does the Scarlet Speedster run back onto screens?

The CW is in the midst of a rebrand era. The network has now been purchased by Nexstar and is expected to see something of a relaunch in the months (and perhaps years) ahead. And that all started with the cancellation of many of its beloved hits.

One show that survived the mass cull of CW shows was The Flash. A veteran superhero show and the last linear Arrowverse series, it is the network’s all-time biggest hit, so it’s not a surprise that it was renewed for a ninth season. That said, all good things must come to an end, and that’s not a rule that even Barry Allen can outrun, as The Flash season 9 will indeed be the show’s last season.

The fall TV season kicks into gear on The CW in October, with Kung Fu, Walker, The Winchesters, Walker: Independence and more joining DC’s Stargirl, but The Flash season 9 won’t be a part of that fall schedule.

The Flash season 9 release date predictions

The Flash season 9 will premiere on The CW in 2023. The announcement was made back at the network’s Upfronts Presentation in May, when it was revealed that veteran comic book shows like Flash, Superman and Lois season 3, and Riverdale season 7 (which is also the show’s final season) will be held until midseason.

While the network has yet to announce a month, its midseason shows often kick off sometime between January and March. In fact, March is a month that The Flash is familiar with, as both its seventh season and the second half of its eighth season premiered in that month in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

This is just a prediction and, as always, it’s best to wait for official confirmation from the network. What we can confirm is that production on the ninth season has already commenced, with star Grant Gustin recently revealing via social media that the cast and crew have started work on episode 2 already.

We have a bit of a wait for season 9, yes, but the good news is that a 2023 release date gives you plenty of time to start your Flash rewatch from the beginning right now!
