Marvel Comics has six new crossovers coming over the next two years. What are they and what can you expect?

New York Comic-Con is a great place for fans of comic book culture to get news on upcoming events, especially when it comes to Marvel Comics. This year was no exception. During the 2022 New York Comic-Con, Marvel announced six new crossovers coming the next couple of years.

The titles coming are Avengers Assemble, Dark Web, Sins of Sinister, Captain America: Cold War, Summer of Symbiotes, and Fall of X. In some way or another, they involve the Avengers, former members of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, or the X-Men. Considering they’re the premiere superhero teams, it makes sense. But what are they about and who will be the major characters? Here’s all of that and more.

Avengers Assemble

The last year has been a crazy time for the Avengers. Their battle with the Council of Red has forced them to time and reality hop. The 616 universe was rewritten and changed back (read Heroes Reborn for that). There are also the battles that took place with the first Avengers of the world. Now, after all of that and more, Jason Aaron’s run is coming to an end.

Jason Aaron’s Avengers (that started in 2018), Avengers Forever, and Avengers of 1,000,000 BC will conclude in the Marvel crossover Avengers Assemble. We’ll likely see all of the characters introduced in Aaron’s stories and then some. Don’t be shocked if there’s an appearance from Hyperion, Power Princess, and other members of the Squadron Supreme.

Dark Web

Decades ago, the X-Men made way for a new villain named Madelyne Pryor. She’s a clone created by Mister Sinister. She eventually became the Goblin Queen and caused all sorts of problems for the X-Men. Decades before that, another clone debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man. His name was Ben Reilly. Together, they’re going to bring back the Inferno and cause havoc for the X-Men, Spider-Man, and who knows who else.

During the Zeb Wells run of The Amazing Spider-Man, Ben Reilly became Spider-Man. After that series ended, Ben became Chasm. That somehow leads to Ben and Madelyne becoming a couple. The trailer above shows the new Gold Goblin, Spider-Man, X-Men, Venom, and more fighting against Chasm and the Goblin Queen.

With Zeb Wells writing this, there’s no way that it won’t be a great series. Look for more awful things to happen to Peter Parker during and after this series.

Sins of Sinister

Nathaniel Essex (Mr. Sinister) has always been devious. Becoming part of the Quiet Council and a citizen of Krakoa didn’t stop that. In fact, it’s made him worse. He now has hundreds of mutants to get DNA from. Being around them has made him even more determined. Thankfully, the X-Men have always been able to stop him from completing his plans. Sins of Sinister will show a timeline where Mr. Sinister was never stopped.

"“This universe-melting X-event will introduce a horrifying timeline that makes the Age of Apocalypse look like the X-Men Swimsuit Special…’ – Marvel.com"

Other than Sins of Sinister, there are three other connected comics. First there’s Storm & the Brotherhood of Mutants. Arakko was destroyed and now Storm wants revenge. Nightcrawlers is about Sinister’s group of chimera led by Wagnerine (a combination of Wolverine and Nightcrawler) made to protect Essex. According to Marvel.com, Immoral X-Men is about the leaders of the X-Men going bad ten years into the future. Of the three titles, that one may be the most interesting.

Captain America: Cold War

The mantle of Captain America has been worn by more than a few people. In Captain America: Cold War, stories will be told about the three most popular characters; Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, and Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier).

Sam Wilson will be going up against Wakanda. In that tale, Ian Rogers returns as Nomad. It’s unknown whose side he’s on. Bucky is fighting a supervillain group called the Outer Circle. According to Marvel, it looks like Steve Rogers may not like the lengths he’ll go to to stop them.

These stories are connected and Steve Rogers will be in the center of them both. This could end with Steve questioning how and why he wears the uniform and how he protects people. Plus, with the title Cold War, Wakanda and America could have weapons pointed at each other with Sam and Steve trying to keep the peace.

Summer of Symbiotes

There isn’t a lot to go on when it comes to this title. Seeing as it’s a little under a year away, that makes sense. However, you don’t need to know much. Marvel Comics has promised symbiotes old and new symbiotes. Who doesn’t love all of that?

With that comes Spider-Man, Venom, Carnage, and maybe the return of Knull. Maybe Flash Thompson and Mac Gargan will wear their suits again.

"“The X-Men hoped Krakoa would last forever. Time to find out if they were right.” – Marvel"

Fall of X

Despite the ups and downs, Krakoa has been a utopia. If something good is happening to mutants, you can believe that something even worse is coming. Everything from the Eternals to Orchis have tried to kill them. There have even been enemies from within as well. Well, it looks like the mutant paradise is coming to an end in Fall of X.

In Immortal X-Men No. 3 Destiny catalogs possible timelines for the future of mutants. Some of them lead to the destruction of Krakoa and all of the mutants. That issue could have shown the timeline where Fall of X takes place. Hopefully, this isn’t the end of the Krakoa era. It’s nice to have a new different land in Marvel Comics.
