Black Adam cameos: Is Henry Cavill in Black Adam?
By Cody Schultz
There are some really fun Black Adam cameos for fans to enjoy, but is an appearance from Henry Cavill as Superman among them?
It’s been five years since Henry Cavill last suited up as the Man of Steel within a DC Extended Universe-set film, but that hasn’t kept fans from holding out hope that Cavill could one day return as Superman. And it’s definitely been an interesting five years.
In the time since Cavill last appeared as Superman, there have been many reports suggesting DC was ready to move on from Cavill’s tenure as the iconic hero as it looked ahead to an uncertain future. Still, fans continued to call for a sequel to Man of Steel or any form of a follow-up project featuring Cavill’s Superman.
Recent years seemed to suggest those hopes were nothing more than wishful thinking, but then entered Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who has been a vocal supporter of Cavill’s Man of Steel. In the build-up to Black Adam‘s release, Johnson has openly expressed an interest in seeing his character face off against Superman someday and he’s made it quite clear that he’d like the Superman his character faces off against to be played by Cavill.
So with the release of Black Adam, there has become a natural curiosity among fans as to whether Johnson managed to pull off the once unthinkable task of not only bringing Superman back into the fold but doing so with Cavill in the role.
Leading up to the film, there were no signs of the character or actor in promotional materials for the project but did Johnson manage to find a way to bring the Man of Steel into the mix via Black Adam?
Warning spoilers from Black Adam ahead, if you wish not to spoil any plotlines from the film proceed with caution.
Black Adam cameos: Is Superman in Black Adam?
There are some fun cameos in Black Adam including a very unexpected cameo from the Man of Steel! That’s right, Superman does indeed make an appearance in Black Adam though you’re going to have to wait until the very end for the moment to occur.
During the film’s mid-credit scene, the Man of Steel returns to the DCEU via a cameo that is sure to leave fans talking for many reasons. Unlike in the Shazam! end scene where Superman makes a cameo when dropping by the cafeteria to have lunch with Freddy and the gang but is never actually seen, Black Adam brings Superman into the frame and he’s played by a very familiar-looking face!
Is Henry Cavill in Black Adam?
Although it looked as though we had seen Henry Cavill suit up as Superman for the final time, Dwayne Johnson managed to get him back into the mix bringing him into the fold via the film’s mid-credit scene.
During the mid-credit scene, Black Adam returns to Kahndaq when he gets a surprise visit from the one and only Amanda Waller. Appearing via hologram technology, Waller warns him to stay in Kahndaq if he knows what’s best for him which is when he returns the threat by saying there’s no one on this planet that can stop him.
Waller then hints that she can always call in a favor from someone not from this world which is when he challenges her to “send them all” before destroying the drone projecting her hologram. As the smoke clears from the destroyed drone, we see Superman enter the frame played by Cavill who is sporting a brighter new suit.
“It’s been a while since anyone’s made the world this nervous,” Cavill’s Superman confesses telling him that it’s time they “should talk.” We see a smirk from Black Adam and the camera fades to black.
Is Henry Cavill returning as Superman in the DC Extended Universe?
Although Warner Bros. Discovery has not confirmed any future projects beyond those previously announced, the odds of seeing Henry Cavill return as the Man of Steel in a future Superman project are looking strong.
Rumors have been building that a new Superman film is in development and it seems very likely that Cavill will return to reprise his role as Superman within the DCEU. Johnson had long been a supporter of Cavill and his Superman, so the fact that he managed to pull off his return via the Black Adam mid-credit scene coupled with the vocalness Johnson has had in seeing the two characters face off suggests Cavill won’t be hanging up Superman’s cape just yet.
Of course, we’ll have to wait until DC officially announces its next slate of projects to know what exactly the future could hold for Cavill’s Man of Steel but the odds finally seem to be in fans’ favor after an extended period of uncertainty.
