Fans are thrilled at the prospect of Cyclop’s arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this image of Dylan O’Brien in the role has made them even more excited.

For years, fans have been dying to see Dylan O’Brien make his superhero debut with a role in either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Extended Universe. And it’s not hard to understand why.

O’Brien is an incredible actor who has already proven he’s more than capable of leading a franchise as evident in The Maze Runner trilogy and anyone who has watched O’Brien in his breakout role in Teen Wolf knows just how insane the actor’s range is.

From the moment his time on Teen Wolf came to an end, there have been whispers about why O’Brien should make the leap to the superhero genre. Yet, fast forward to today, and O’Brien has yet to take on the role of a comic book hero or villain.

But that hasn’t stopped the fans from hoping Marvel or DC might come calling. Fans continue to speculate over who O’Brien should play on the big screen. While it’s often DC’s Nightwing that fans dream cast O’Brien in the role of, there’s also been growing buzz over the actor taking on one of the X-Men’s most iconic heroes when the time comes to introduce the iconic Marvel heroes in the MCU.

Now, thanks to an incredible piece of concept art, fans have been given the chance to see just how incredible O’Brien could be in the role of Scott Summers aka Cyclops if given the chance!

What Dylan O’Brien might look like as Cyclops in the MCU

Inspired by the suits worn in X-Men: First Class, artist JPH has transformed Dylan O’Brien into the X-Men’s long-time leader Cyclops — complete with the character’s iconic visor. The concept art is then tied together with the Xavier Institute, which serves as the backdrop of the image and provides a sense of action with O’Brien’s Cyclops ready to head out into the field to protect and serve.

The art makes a strong case for just how amazing O’Brien could be in the role of Cyclops if Marvel were to tap the young actor to take on the iconic role. And we have to admit O’Brien could be the perfect actor to play the character who has often been overshadowed in past X-Men films and overlooked by fans.

O’Brien has proven he can not only master dramatic roles, but he also has perfect comedic timing which could make the character more likable than past iterations of the character have been. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that O’Brien shares a stunning resemblance to the character’s comic book counterpart as perfectly displayed in the above concept art.

Is Dylan O’Brien playing Cyclops in the MCU?

Not only has Marvel not cast Dylan O’Brien as Cyclops in the MCU, but it’s looking highly unlikely we’ll ever see O’Brien suit up as Cyclops or any other Marvel hero in the near future.

In a March 2022 interview with ScreenRant, O’Brien was asked about fans’ desire to see him star in a superhero film amid rumors he was being courted by DC for the role of Nightwing. While he did not entirely rule out the possibility of playing a superhero on the big screen — be it for DC or Marvel — O’Brien seemed to make it abundantly clear that he doesn’t have any interest in starring in a superhero film.

"“In the way that I want to approach my career, I just don’t think it would benefit what I want to do, nor do I think it’s interesting to me. Why can’t I be disinterested in those things? (Laughs.) It’s just not what I’m into, and it’s not what I’m interested in doing with my career and job. I’m also not closed to anything. I would entertain everything. But also, those things are a big life change as well. I don’t think people think about that a lot. It’s a really big commitment. So all that stuff goes into it."

Of course, he added that he would entertain the idea, but we definitely get a sense that O’Brien has no desire to sign a multi-picture deal with a studio to appear in a superhero movie — which is a real shame.

O’Brien would be an incredible addition to the MCU and the fan art from JPH definitely makes a strong argument for just how amazing he could be in the role of Cyclops if given the chance! Let’s just hope maybe the Marvel Studios brass might one day be able to convince him to join the MCU in the future.
