X-Men: Rogue should end Captain Marvel’s run in the MCU
How Rogue works in a film in the MCU
Pulling off a story where Captain Marvel falls to Rogue would be tough, but building a narrative around the big bads she has to stop could work. The star of the film would be a young Rogue, who becomes a victim of her upbringing. Mystique, Destiny, and Rogue should be presented as anti-villains with motives that directly impact and oppose Captain Marvel. Put Rogue in a position where she feels so threatened, so afraid that she has to absorb Carol’s life force. While in a coma, Carol could haunt Rogue, which leads to another film, an Avengers film.
The psychological torment is a narrative that works in a film that forces the X-Men to step in. A story where Rogue is being haunted could send her on a bit of an uncontrolled rampage, resulting in her killing Carol Danvers and losing her soul (as predicted by Destiny). The other Marvel powered heroes could join the fight, but could find themselves unable to stop the super-powered trio. Unable to stop the villains, the X-Men could step in and stop the big bad mutant that the Avengers can’t. With Professor X looking for ways to put mutants in a good light, he could make a deal to take Rogue in, as he would feel that she’s seen the error of her ways.
Rogue could be the first introduction to full team of X-Men on the big-screen. This would simply be the start of something bigger with a looming threat that should exist in the X-Men Universe: Mr. Sinister.
