Riverdale season 7 brings about the end of an era for The CW. Unfortunately it won’t arrive on screens in the upcoming months. When can fans expect it?

Riverdale is getting ready to say its goodbyes. The most bonkers show on television will bow out after its seventh and final season airs on The CW in the near-future.

One of the last network TV shows to become a real global sensation, the Archie Comics-inspired series owes much of its success to Netflix. A streaming original outside of the US, it landed with new episodes on the service the day after its US broadcast on The CW, being watched by millions of households worldwide. It would then premiere on Netflix in the US just over a week after its season finished airing on TV.

But even its global success couldn’t keep it from concluding, with both declining US viewing figures on The CW and the fact that the show had been on for a lengthy run resulting in the reveal that Riverdale season 7 would be the show’s last.

But if you’re expecting new episodes of the show to arrive this month, you might be disappointed to learn that it won’t be happening. The CW has indeed launched its fall 2022 schedule but Riverdale season 7 isn’t part of it.

Riverdale season 7 release date predictions

Riverdale season 7 will premiere on The CW in 2023. A definitive release window has yet to be set, but it will likely premiere in the early part of the year. The network’s midseason shows tend to kick off between January and March, and with The CW moving away from broadcasting its own original shows in the summer, it’s likely that Riverdale season 7 will come earlier in the year – especially if it has 22 episodes like previous seasons.

This is a slot that Riverdale is familiar with as season 5 premiered in January 2021, while season 6 commenced its normal run in March 2022 (after its five-episode “Rivervale” event aired in the fall).

Taking all of that into account, we should expect Riverdale season 7 to premiere sometime between January and March 2023. It’s not certain as all midseason shows probably won’t start at the same time, but with Riverdale potentially having a longer season than its fellow CW shows, don’t be surprised if it premieres earlier.

That is just a prediction, of course, and it’s best to wait for official confirmation from The CW, but knowing Riverdale, the show will surprise you when you least expect it.
