The Walking Dead may be over but Rick and Michonne will return in their spinoff series. When do Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira star in the show?

Rick Grimes and Michonne found themselves at the center of arguably the greatest love story on The Walking Dead. First crossing paths in the show’s third season, they worked together as allies for a long time before they fell in love.

They have suffered loss throughout their time together, losing son Carl and eventually Rick himself, but their love story has continued to remain a substantial story point in TWD (even though none of them are on the show anymore). That is down to the presence of their daughter Judith and son RJ.

Michonne’s discovery that Rick may not be dead in season 10 resulted in her departure from the show as she went to look for him. However, now that the show itself has concluded, we will see the continuation of their story via The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne, a six-part series that will see the pair find their way back to each other.

With Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira back, when can viewers anticipate the Rick and Michonne spinoff?

The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne release date predictions

The Walking Dead‘s Rick and Michonne spinoff series will debut on AMC in 2023. The announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con, catching fans completely off-guard as it was not one of the originally confirmed TWD Universe spin-offs in development.

A movie trilogy focusing on Rick Grimes had been announced after Andrew Lincoln’s departure from the main series in season 9, but it had been a long time since Scott Gimple, Angela Kang, or AMC provided any significant updates on it. That has now evolved into the Rick and Michonne series instead.

As for when exactly in 2023 it could premiere, a mid-late 2023 release window is most likely. Of course, that’s just a prediction and it’s best to wait for AMC to make an announcement, but it is important to note that show has yet to begin filming and AMC already has the first of the new spinoffs, The Walking Dead: Dead City, lined up for an April debut (and veteran spinoff Fear The Walking Dead season 8 likely set for an early-mid 2023 release), so a late 2023 release date is likely.

The Walking Dead may have concluded, but Rick and Michonne’s story will continue.
