DC characters we want to see get the James Gunn treatment
4. Bronze Tiger
There aren’t enough heroes of color on the big screen or streaming services. There are plenty of original heroes to choose from — Bronze Tiger is one of them. Michael Jai White did a fantastic job as the anti-hero on CW’s Arrow. It’s time he gets a movie or show of his own. Ben Turner’s origins are inconsistent, so there’s freedom with recreating his story.
As a child, Ben had a thirst for blood, which he discovered after killing a home invader — he was only ten. It’s easy to see a story about a man struggling with accepting mortality. He’d eventually find martial arts, though his first encounter saw his sensei exploiting his anger. Richard Dragon was the sensei who helped Ben become a more easygoing version of himself. Together, they became a master martial artist.
There’s a story in the comics that sees Ben and Richard travel to Africa to help end the slave trade. They are captured, imprisoned, and eventually, they escape. The martial artists capture the big bad, but not without sacrifice. Ben loses his friend, which sends him over the edge brutally murdering the slave trader instead of bringing him in. The film could see Ben’s anger costing him freedom despite him taking out the big bad. Held inside an international prison.
Before the credits roll, Amanda Waller could show up and recruit Ben to Task Force X, or Ra’s Al Ghul could recruit him into the League of Assassins. This could be an action-buddy type movie with Bronze Tiger and Richard Dragon.
