The Flash season 9 will be the show’s final season but don’t be expecting new episodes to premiere this coming month.

Central City’s greatest hero’s journey is winding down. Barry Allen, the Scarlet Speedster and the last-standing hero from the Arrowverse to headline his own show, will hang up his lightning boots when The Flash comes to an end next year.

The end of the show isn’t shocking. It’s had an excellent, long, and successful run (which is earned after becoming The CW’s biggest hit ever). Moreover, the loss of fellow Arrowverse shows via the nefarious means of cancellations signified an ending for this universe that deserved so much better. Nevertheless, it will be sad to say goodbye to what is probably the biggest superhero TV series of all time.

Before that happens, Grant Gustin will return in The Flash season 9 for one more adventure. But don’t be expecting that new adventure to air in January, as The CW has already revealed when the season 9 premiere will air.

The Flash season 9 release date

The Flash season 9 will premiere on The CW on Wednesday, February 8, at 8:00 p.m. ET. This is the same timeslot that the show has possessed since its eighth season (when it moved after being a Tuesday night regular for close to a decade) and it will air before new episodes of Kung Fu season 3.

As for what we can expect from the season, well it’s shaping up to be quite the season indeed, with the first teaser trailer already revealing returning faces like the Pied Piper (Andy Mientus). And Hartley Rathaway isn’t the only person returning, as the final season will also feature the return of Batwoman‘s Javicia Leslie, and Supergirl‘s Nicole Maines.

It’s going to be an emotional ride for Flash fans when the season concludes as it will mark the end of the series’ incredible run, making it the longest-running Arrowverse series and the second-longest running superhero show (just one season behind Smallville).
