The Umbrella Academy season 4 is not coming to Netflix in January 2023

The Umbrella Academy season 4 will be the final season for the beloved Netflix show but don’t expect it on your screens early next year.

It seems like no time since we were counting down the days until The Umbrella Academy season 2. Then season 3 was announced and an understandably lengthy wait for that ensued. Now, here we are, anticipating its fourth season.

Season 3 was released between the two parts of Stranger Things‘ juggernaut fourth season but it clearly performed well for the streaming service, because just a few short months after its premiere, show creator Steve Blackman announced that it had been renewed for a fourth season. That news was bittersweet, however, because it was also confirmed that season 4 would be its final season.

With a new year upon us, all sights are set on 2023. But don’t be expecting The Umbrella Academy season 4 to debut in January. Yes, Netflix released its listings for January and it was not listed there, but if you’re a fan of the show and have been keeping up with season 4’s progress, you probably already knew that.

Does The Umbrella Academy season 4 have a release date?

Netflix has yet to confirm when the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy will premiere, but it’s going to be quite some time away. For starters, the season has yet to begin filming. Recent reports suggest that it will commence production in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in February 2023.

It is worth noting that season 4 is only six episodes long, so theoretically production might not last as long as filming on the first three seasons did (all of which were ten episodes long). That being said, filming will still take time and it could continue on into the second half of the year.

With that in mind, the earliest possibility for The Umbrella Academy season 4’s release would probably be winter 2023. But 2024 is looking like a much more realistic possibility at this point due to the amount of time needed for filming and post-production. And let’s not forget that this is the final season, so Netflix will likely ensure the creative team have enough time so that the beloved show’s ending is worthwhile.

Netflix will likely release more information about season 4 in the coming months as production begins. In the meantime, you have plenty of time to go back and rewatch seasons 1 – 3 in order to prepare for the final season.
