Is Batwoman season 4 coming in 2023?

A new year brings a new era for The CW but will Batwoman season 4 ever happen?

Batwoman was one of The CW’s most enduring shows. In spite of an unnecessary amount of hate in its early days, the first season was a huge success for the network, with its pilot episode drawing 1.8 million viewers. Then its lead, Ruby Rose, departed abruptly after the first season, but Javicia Leslie stepped in, saving the show and bringing a new Scarlet Knight to Gotham City.

The show ran for three seasons before its untimely cancellation in May 2022. It wasn’t the only show that fell, but it was one of the biggest shocks because of how much faith The CW had in the Arrowverse shows.

As we head into a new year, people are once again talking about Batwoman. But what is the reason, and is there any hope for the show returning in 2023?

Is Batwoman season 4 happening?

Unfortunately, Batwoman season 4 will not be happening. The CW cancelled the show last season ahead of its sale to Nexstar. According to reports, then-CW President Mark Pedowitz actually wanted to renew the show (along with fellow Arrowverse show DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) but Warner Bros. didn’t want to pay for the studio space anymore. That means it’s unlikely that anyone will save it simply because the cancellation was seemingly down the studio.

However, while Batwoman season 4 won’t be airing on The CW in 2023, the Scarlet Knight will return on The Flash season 9. Javicia Leslie is set to guest star in the show’s ninth and final season, portraying both Ryan Wilder and the DC Comics villain The Red Death (who appears to be an evil doppelganger of Ryan).

With The Flash‘s conclusion bringing an end to the Arrowverse era, it’s only fitting that it will revisit some of its greatest hits, so even though Batwoman may not get another season, it will be wonderful to catch up with Batwoman herself one more time.
