The Flash season 9: Stephen Amell returning for the Arrowverse’s final season
By Matthew Roth
Stephen Amell will be returning to the Arrowverse with a surprise appearance in The Flash’s ninth and final season.
The Green Arrow himself will be making his long awaited return to the Arrowverse in the final season of the hit CW series The Flash. Yes, Stephen Amell is back to reprise his role one more time before the Arrowverse comes to an end.
After the announcement was made, Amell posted a photo on Instagram of himself with Grant Gustin a.k.a. Barry Allen from back when the latter made his debut appearance on Arrow, with the caption: “When Barry calls…Oliver answers…”
This news has sent fans into a wild frenzy as the anchor behind The CW’s DC Universe would be returning one final time.
Stephen Amell joins star-studded final season of The Flash
This announcement comes after it was revealed that Keiynan Lonsdale would be coming back as Wally West, along with David Ramsey as Arrow‘s John Diggle, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Dr. Ramsey Rosso, a.k.a. Bloodwork. The ninth season will of course be the final season for our beloved Scarlet Speedster so the reunions will bring extra tears no doubt.
Showrunner Eric Wallace said in a statement: “As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen.”
It’s only fitting that Oliver returns in the final season of the show, as Barry Allen was first seen in season 2 of Arrow, so to bring this full circle and have Oliver appear in The Flash‘s last season makes sense.
How he will be reintroduced in the show is yet to be revealed since fans remember the character died not once but twice during the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. We comic book fans do know however, that nobody truly stays dead in the world of heroes.
On Amell’s return, Wallace also stated:
"“It’s all to say “thank you” to everyone for watching and supporting our show throughout nine wonderful years. We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen saving the world together again. And yes, there will be thrills, chills, and tears.”"
As if Stephen returning wasn’t enough to be excited about Danielle Panabaker will be directing the episode as well.
If all of that isn’t enough to get us ready for this epic final season I don’t know what is. The season is set to premiere on Wednesday, February 8, at 8:00 p.m. ET. Will you be watching?
