Naomi

This time last year, the future was bright for Naomi. The CW’s newest superhero series premiered alongside the network’s biggest recent hit Superman and Lois and was set for success after a huge premiere. Unfortunately, its numbers declined throughout its freshman run at a time when the network needed higher numbers than ever before.

The sale of The CW threw everything into question last year, because suddenly a network known for giving its shows a chance to grow was cutting them off before they could breakout in an international market (which many of them did).

Naomi was cancelled after just one season, ending the Ava DuVernay-produced show right as it was getting off the ground. And it joins fellow DCTV shows DC’s Legends of TomorrowBatwoman, and DC’s Stargirl in falling at the hands of a network that is becoming increasingly unrecognizable.

Young Justice

Few shows have defied the odds quite like Young Justice did. Cancelled after two seasons in spite of its overwhelming success, it found new life on Netflix when those first two seasons landed on it. That eventually paved the way for a streaming revival, when it returned for a third season on DC Universe and a fourth season on HBO Max.

Unfortunately, the show has seemingly been canceled for a second time. Season 4 of the beloved animated series, titled Young Justice: Phantoms, was the only commitment that HBO Max made to the series and it has since fulfilled that. With new owners after the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, it seems that Young Justice season 5 is not on the streamer’s radar right now.

If that does change in the future, it’s important to note how long animation can take to produce. Thus, if season 5 does happen (and we really hope it does), don’t be expecting it this year.
