Fans have wanted to see Sebastian Stan become a younger Luke Skywalker for a very long time and this The Mandalorian image highlights why.

Sebastian Stan helped save the world on Disney Plus‘ original series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier back in 2021 as his character Bucky Barnes reunited with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe show to preserve the legacy of their long-time friend Captain America/Steve Rogers. The MCU series broke Disney Plus records as its premiere became the most-watched in the streamer’s history at the time (before its successor Loki unseated it at the top).

That said, Star Wars fans are hoping to see Stan appear in a different Disney Plus franchise in the near future – one that is spun off from a different movie saga. We are, of course, talking about The Mandalorian and the character fans want to see him play is none other than Star Wars legend Luke Skywalker himself.

The Mandalorian season 3 made its long-awaited premiere on Disney Plus earlier this year, ending a two-year wait for the show to return. Naturally, its return meant that the Luke Skywalker conversation has once again come up simply because fans would love to see it. He didn’t appear in the show’s third season nor has he any ties to the Star Wars franchise (yet) but with The Mandalorian season 4 in development, spinoff Ahsoka on-screens, and an endless bank of ideas in that galaxy so far far away, you can bet the speculation and discussions among fans will continue.

Stan has been at the top of fan-castings for the role of Luke Skywalker for years now and, looking at this image, it’s easy to see why.

What Sebastian Stan might look like as Star Wars’ Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian

Digital artist Ryan Smallman took to social media to share an incredible piece of art depicting Sebastian Stan in the role of Luke Skywalker if he were to appear in a future season of The Mandalorian. The awe-inspiring fan art was in response to the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian which featured a reference to the character in a truly jaw-dropping moment.

The original role was, of course, played by Mark Hamill and the reason that fans are so passionate about the possibility of Stan succeeding him in the role is the fact that he looks incredibly like Hamill did during his Star Wars days.

Is Sebastian Stan playing Luke Skywalker in Star Wars?

Given all the comparisons that have been made between Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker and Sebastian Stan, fans are convinced that Lucasfilm will capitalize on their likeness at some point, with many hoping for a Luke Skywalker spin-off prequel. That has yet to happen but there is always a chance that it could happen in the future, especially as Stan himself said “never say say” when asked about the possibility.

Hamill has approved of the comparisons, leading to further excitement from fans – who really want Disney and Lucasfilm to cast the Bucky Barnes star as the character in some capacity. While many would love to see him play the role in The Mandalorian season 3, seeing him in a Luke Skywalker prequel movie/Disney Plus series would be every bit as thrilling.

What’s most promising is that Stan himself has addressed the fan-casting rumors and seems to be very much on board with the idea.

“Look, it’s really kind. Never say never,” Stan commented on the idea of playing Luke Skywalker in a Star Wars project when speaking with Esquire.

So what would it take for Stan to join the Star Wars franchise in the role? According to Stan, if Hamill were to personally call him to give his vote of confidence to take on the role, he’d take it as a sign to pursue the role.

While Hamill has not called Stan yet, he has openly supported him taking the role and even told Good Morning America he’d love the chance to work with him.

Needless to say, this exceptional fan art just proves why Stan should be given the chance to play the role in some capacity. If Lucasfilm needs the younger version of the character to appear in The Mandalorian or any other Star Wars property (and don’t want to use the CGI long-term), it’s safe to say fans would love it if they reached out to Stan to make it happen.

It would be too much of a missed opportunity if it weren’t to happen. Here’s hoping that it does one day!

The Mandalorian‘s first three seasons are streaming on Disney Plus., and a fourth is on the way Ahsoka streams a new episode every Tuesday.

Would you like to see Sebastian Stan portray a younger Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian season 4 or Ahsoka? Would you prefer him to headline a Star Wars prequel movie/series instead?
