Deadpool No. 4 bringing Carnage back is a sign that Marvel Comics’ Summer of Symbiotes is on its way.

When people think of Deadpool, symbiotes aren’t the first thing that comes to mind. However, Wade Wilson has a history with the popular symbiote Carnage (real name Cletus Kasady). The two have fought a few times and legitimately hate each other. After the Marvel Comics event Absolute Carnage, it looked like Kasady would be gone for a while. Considering this is the comic book universe, four years is a long time. If it wasn’t for Dr. Harriet Bromes (The Harrower), it may have been longer.

However, at the end of Alyssa Wong’s Deadpool No. 4, Carnage made his official return. Back in Deadpool No. 1, Dr. Bromes put a piece of Carnage inside Wade’s body. She knew that his regenerative powers would be the best place for Carnage to incubate. She was right. The fourth issue concludes with Cletus Kasady popping out of Wade’s stomach saying, “It’s good to be back.” This wasn’t just an ending of an issue. It’s the beginning of two major Marvel comics.

Deadpool begins the next Marvel Symbiote events

During the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Comics announced the Summer of Symbiotes. A comic book event that would feature classic symbiotes like Venom and introduce new ones as well. Of course, you can’t have a Symbiote crossover without Carnage. It wouldn’t feel right. He’s been a thorn in the side of Venom and Spider-Man for decades. Bringing him back before the Summer of Symbiotes makes sense. It’s also a brilliant move to bring him back to be involved in Extreme Venomverse.

As Marvel.com states:

"“This May, symbiotes steal the spotlight in new anthology series ‘Extreme Venomverse,’ starring Venom and the first appearances of all-new symbiote heroes and villains.”"

Extreme Venomverse is a five issue mini-series starting the momentum into Summer of Symbiotes. Marvel.com reports that “the series will feature jaw-dropping turning points for iconic characters like Eddie Brock and Dylan Brock and show never-before-seen Venoms bear their fangs for the very first time!”

This should be an entertaining crossover that will feature anyone that’s had a symbiote for an extended amount of time. That’s including characters like Spider-Man, Mac Gargan, “The Merc with a Mouth” Deadpool, and more.
