Who plays David and James on HBO’s The Last of Us?
David and James make their debuts in The Last of Us episode 8, setting the stage for some huge developments. Who plays them on the HBO series?
Ellie and Joel have already encountered a number of interesting people on their travels throughout the first season of The Last of Us. Their attempt to find a Fireflies headquarters has resulted in them crossing paths with quite a few friendly faces (like Joel’s brother Tommy and his wife Maria), as well as multiple threats (such as the Clickers, and Kathleen).
Their most recent interaction was with more threats, as what seemed to be a gang of raiders attacked them and left Joel with a deadly stab wound. Ellie has looked after him since in the hopes that he will recover. But as that recovery continues, Ellie comes across David, a preacher and a cannibal in charge of a group of survivors, and his friend James.
If you recognize the actors playing them (or their voices, perhaps), or you just want to know who’s bringing these characters to life on the HBO and HBO Max series, here’s everything you need to know about them.
The Last of Us David and James actors
David is portrayed by Scott Shepard. Shepard has enjoyed a long and successful career in film, TV, and theater (after getting his start on the latter). His first film appearance came in 1995, and since then he has built up an impressive career, with appearances on both the big and small screens. He is perhaps best known for his roles in Bridge of Spies, Jason Bourne, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, and The Young Pope.
James is played by Troy Baker, and if that name sounds familiar to you that’s probably because he voiced Joel in The Last of Us game. It’s always lovely to see the cast and crew of the video game getting acknowledgements with roles in the TV series and needless to say Baker is fantastic in the role of James. He is an incredibly prolific voice actor, with prominent roles in BioShock Infinite, multiple games in the Uncharted series, Final Fantasy XIII, God of War, Death Stranding, the middle-Earth series, and he also voiced The Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins (before going on to voice the character, as well as Batman himself, in animated projects as well).
