When is season 1, episode 9 of The Last of Us coming out? What can you expect in the season finale? Find out right here.

After eight episodes of characters who we started to like either leaving or dying, Joel and Ellie will finally make it to the Fireflies it seems. Our two traveling stars of The Last of Us will reach their destination where a cure for the infected can be made. However, if you’ve paid attention to the show, you should know that nothing comes easy.

If you’ve never played the game and you’ve avoided spoilers, get ready to join the club of people who debate the ending. Series star Bella Ramsey revealed that the finale will be divisive, telling Vogue UK:

"“It’s going to divide people massively – massively.”"

If you played the game, then you probably know what’s coming. One of the characters is going to do something that will shock some, but not others. Almost ten years later and people still debate if that character did the right thing in the end. Now that the video game has been adapted into a TV series, there will be more conversations surrounding what we’d do in that situation.

With the penultimate episode airing on HBO and streaming on HBO Max this week, all sights are set on the season finale. Here’s when you can expect it to air.

When does The Last of Us episode 9 come out?

The Last of Us season 1 episode 9, a.k.a. the season 1 finale, premieres on both HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, March 12, at 9 pm Eastern Time, 8 pm Central Time, and 6 pm Pacific Time.

If you’ve been watching the show during its initial airing slot, you won’t be surprised by this. The times and dates have remained the same throughout its run since it premiered in January, with new episodes releasing every Sunday (with the exception of episode 5’s early release ahead of Super Bowl Sunday).

Unlike Titans and Doom Patrol, The Last of Us‘ first season will not be split into two parts. So this Sunday’s coming episode will indeed be the season 1 finale. Thankfully, we know that it will be back for season 2 in the future.
