The Flash movie merchandise may have confirmed Grant Gustin role
The Flash movie will reboot the DC Universe, but could it also bring in TV’s Flash for a well-deserved cameo appearance?
If you asked someone to name the definitive version of DC superhero The Flash, there’s a pretty big chance that Ezra Miller wouldn’t be the most common answer. The DCEU star may have played the Scarlet Speedster in multiple DC movies, but that Flash hasn’t become the household presence that Grant Gustin’s version of the character has.
A staple of television for the past decade, Gustin has played Barry Allen for almost 200 episodes on The CW TV series, and that’s not a fact that should be forgotten, even with Miller’s version about to give the hero his first solo feature film.
Speaking of The Flash movie, there has long been speculation that Gustin could make a cameo appearance as his Flash in a nod to the legacy of his performance and the TV series, and now some of the movie’s official merchandise may have confirmed this.
The Flash movie merchandise teases Grant Gustin’s Flash
As reported by The Direct, an Official Visual Companion for The Flash movie, titled The Scarlet Speedster From Page to Screen features a nod to Grant Gustin’s superhero. The cover spotlights Erza Miller’s hero front-and-center, surrounded by multiple versions of The Flash from the comics and video games. However, Gustin’s Flash is also featured prominently among them, perhaps teasing a potential role in the movie.
It obviously makes sense to feature The Flash’s most significant screen appearance on the cover but normally when a new live-action version of a character debuts, the previous one is phased out (which may or may not have something to do with the fact that the movie opens just weeks after the series concludes its nine-year run). The decision to feature Gustin’s Scarlet Speedster so prominently is undoubtedly a pleasant surprise, but it has resulted in speculation that it could be setting the stage for an appearance from him in the film.
The star’s name has been among the list of names rumored to appear in The Flash movie, with some reports even suggesting his version of the hero could replace Miller’s before the end of the film. If he does appear, it would be the second time Gustin and Miller’s Flashes have crossed paths (Miller previously guest-starred in Arrowverse crossover Crisis On Infinite Earths).
Needless to say, Grant Gustin made The Flash a household name and his legacy as the character should be honored in the movie.
