Does Ellie die in The Last of Us?
The Last of Us has dramatised Ellie’s attempts to survive the dead world, but will she make it out alive?
Ellie’s journey on The Last of Us has been all about survival. She simply would not have survived if it hadn’t been for Joel’s undying mission to protect her, and so far, that has kept her alive.
Joel and Ellie have been unrelenting in their mission to find the Fireflies’ base and figure out whether the latter’s immunity to the cordyceps infection really is the cure that the world needs. That mission has guided those characters, the show, and us as viewers, through season 1. But with the season finale (and a greenlit season 2) upon us, what does the future hold for Ellie?
To answer that question, we must look at the source material. Yes, the video game will provide us with answers that the series can’t yet. So if you’d like to know what happens to Ellie, read on.

Does Ellie die in The Last of Us video games?
If you’re holding out hope for Ellie in The Last of Us franchise, you’ll be happy to know that she not only survives the first video game, but she also survives the sequel The Last of Us Part II.
As we’ve seen on the TV series already, though, that survival comes at something of a cost as she’ll have to lose more of what she loves along the way, all while meeting new people and new threats.
The biggest threat to her survival in the second game, who we believe will be the main threat of the HBO TV series as well, is Abby Anderson. Without giving anything away, Abby is out for revenge on Joel, and that will obviously put Ellie in even more danger in the future.
We don’t know if there will be a third video game yet, but if there is, Ellie’s safety will undoubtedly be called into question again. The good news is that, for now, Ellie won’t be killed off the TV series as the source material doesn’t feature her death in any capacity. And that means Bella Ramsey will thankfully be sticking around in the show’s second season.
