DC had been building toward a Black Adam and Shazam showdown, but does that come to fruition in Shazam! Fury of the Gods?

From the moment the first Shazam film was announced, DC fans have been eagerly waiting to see Black Adam and Shazam face off in an epic battle.

For those who may not be familiar with the characters, Black Adam and Shazam both possess superhuman strength, agility, and stamina. Black Adam, originally an ancient Egyptian ruler, was granted his powers by the same wizard who granted them to Shazam. However, unlike Shazam, Black Adam uses his powers for his own gain and is often seen as an anti-hero.

The two characters’ paths seemed prime to cross in the DCEU with fans expecting an action-packed battle between the two characters. However, Black Adam did not make an appearance in the first Shazam movie and Shazam was MIA in last year’s Black Adam. Now that Shazam! Fury of the Gods has arrived, fans seem eager to know if the film brought the long-anticipated showdown between the two characters.

Is Black Adam in Shazam 2?

While there are some fun cameos in Shazam! Fury of the GodsDwayne Johnson is not among them. That’s right, Johnson does not reprise his role as Black Adam in Shazam 2 with the film failing to feature an appearance from Johnson in any form. In fact, there is not even a mention of Black Adam in the sequel.

It’s honestly disappointing given DC clearly had some plans to build toward the two characters sharing the screen, but that was before recent changes to the DC leadership.

Following the release of Black Adam, it was decided DC would not be proceeding with a sequel to the film and that the studio had opted to part ways with Johnson. It perhaps didn’t help that Johnson was rumored to have been approached about a cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and turned it down.

According to a reporter from The WrapJohnson passed on doing a cameo in the film. That’s right, DC apparently extended an invitation to Johnson but he turned down the opportunity to make an appearance. While unconfirmed, it’s definitely disappointing as it could have potentially been the one and only opportunity we might have had to see the two characters face off against one another.
