As speculation grows over who DC will announce as its new Batman, we now have a look at what Luke Evans could look like as the Dark Knight!

Being a DC fan has never been an easy ride, but now it’s an unusual time to be one. With the DCEU coming to an end, fans are eagerly anticipating what’s next for the iconic superheroes.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are leading the charge with a brand new interconnected DC Universe, which means many beloved characters will be recast. This will undoubtedly create a divide among fans, with some excited for the fresh take on their favorite heroes, while others are disappointed to see their favorite actors go.

It’s not just the recasting of characters that makes this an unusual time for DC fans, but also the fact that the DCEU is ending. This universe had its ups and downs, but it introduced us to some fantastic interpretations of classic superheroes, like Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Henry Cavill’s Superman. It’s hard to imagine a new DC Universe without these actors, but at the same time, it’s exciting to see what the future holds.

Is DC casting a new Batman?

Among the many DC heroes expected to get recast in this new DC Universe is Batman, as DC is indeed going to be introducing yet another new actor as Batman within the new DC Universe; however, it’s important to keep in mind that DC will not be recasting Robert Pattinson.

Pattinson will continue to play Batman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise which is set to continue as part of DC Studios’ Elseworlds banner — a group of films that will be set in a universe outside of the connected DC Universe.

While Pattinson will remain in place as Batman in the Matt Reeves’ films, DC will be looking to bring in a new actor to play The Dark Knight in its connected universe. It’s unclear when the new Batman will make his debut on the big screen, but we do know a new Batman feature is in development as Batman: The Brave and the Bold was among the first projects confirmed for the new DC Universe slate.

According to James Gunn, “The Brave and the Bold is a story of Batman and his actual son, Damian Wayne. This is based on Grant Morrison’s great comic book run, Damian Wayne is my favorite Robin, he’s a little assassin who Batman tries to get in line and so this is the story of the two of them, and the beginning of sort of the Bat Family in the DCU.”

What Luke Evans could look like as Batman

As rumors continue to swirl about who DC might tap next to play the Caped Crusader in the new DC Universe, fans have begun discussing potential candidates with one name emerging as a favorite among fans being 43-year-old actor Luke Evans.

The growing fan buzz has already started to spark inspiration among artists including digital artist Jaxson Derr, who has debuted a stunning piece of concept art that envisions Evans in the role of DC’s iconic Dark Knight.

In the truly stunning concept art, Evans is transformed into the Dark Knight donning a breathtaking adaptation of the character’s iconic blue and black Batsuit — a suit that doesn’t get enough love when it’s come to adapting the character for the big screen over the years. And while the character’s signature cowl covers a majority of Evans’ face by the nature of its design, you can get a true sense of how amazing Evans could be in the role from the art mimicking Evan’s build and chiseled jawline.

“Casting the DCU is a tough gig that I don’t envy. That being said, I think [Luke Evans] would kill it as the DCU Batman,” Derr commented when sharing the art and expressing an interest in Evans suiting up as Batman in the new DCU.

There is no denying Evans would make a perfect Batman what with his impressive physicality, acting skills, and commanding presence. Evans has shown in his past roles that he has the necessary physicality to play a superhero, having bulked up for his portrayal of Gaston in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast.

He also has a strong screen presence that commands attention and portrays a sense of authority, which is crucial for playing the Dark Knight. He has also demonstrated his range as an actor in a variety of roles, including playing a villain in Fast and Furious 6 and Dracula in Dracula Untold, showing he has the necessary range to play the complex character of Batman.

If Evans were to be cast as Batman, we’d definitely be game to see what he could bring to the role!
