DC Insider provides surprising update on James Gunn’s DC slate
A new report has stated that the second movie following Superman: Legacy in the DCU’s film slate will be The Authority.
A recent headline coming from Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast suggests the second movie in DC Studios slate for Chapter 1 following Superman: Legacy could be The Authority, as per The Direct.
Another scoop from insider Casey “KC” Walsh Chief Editor of The GWW claimed that Superman will fight the Authority at some point in Chapter 1 in the DCU.
Regarding the order of release in the announced slate of films, Sneider’s response has been said to have lined up with the current order and The Authority has been reported to be releasing at some point in 2026.
If this rumor is true, it means DC Studios could be scaling back in their distribution strategy and playing it safer than what had been previously allotted under the reign of Walter Hamada which was four films per year.
As for the rumor that Superman will face the Authority, Sneider is a bit more solid but Walsh has proven to be fairly accurate with his scoops, having revealed some key elements that came to pass in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
What are the films on DCU’s slate?
As revealed in DC’s announcement back on Jan. 31, James Gunn not only mentioned his slate of films that will make up part of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters but also the slate of television series that make up the portion revealed thus far in the DCU franchise.
The films are as follows:
Superman: Legacy
The Authority
The Brave and the Bold
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Swamp Thing
The co-CEO and co-chairman previously mentioned this was in no set order as things could be subject to change. Given that Creature Commandos is already in production and the cast list has already been revealed, it is further along than most DC projects in the new era. This most likely will be the first taste we may probably get from the DCU before Superman: Legacy comes out.
