You may have seen Melissa Barrera’s name on a ton of fan cast lists. And you’ll continue to see her until she gets a comic book movie role — she’s that legit. Barrera is a rising star in Hollywood and has already made a name for herself with her breakout role in In the Heights and her lead role in the new Scream franchise. But we think she’s ready for her next challenge: playing the role of Zatanna in the DC Universe.

Barrera has proven herself to be a versatile actress, with a range that includes both dramatic and comedic performances. She has a natural charisma that would make her the perfect fit for the role of Zatanna, who’s known for her confident and seductive demeanor.

But beyond her on-screen presence, Barrera also has the acting chops to pull off the complex character of Zatanna. As a magician, Zatanna must balance her extraordinary powers with the struggles of being a human being. Barrera has shown that she can handle complex and nuanced characters, and we think she’d be able to bring depth and authenticity to Zatanna’s character.
