8. Battle for the Planet of the Apes
In what was thought to be the final installment of the Arthur P. Jacobs run of the Planet of the Apes series, Caesar, the heir to Cornelius and Zira, leads surviving apes and humans in an Edenesque landscape, while those left in the city after the most brutal war in human history, have mutated and maintained their cruelty.
Even though this is the weakest of the entries of the original run of films, it’s not really that bad of a film if you ignore the plotholes that are abundant like what happened to McDonald’s, how did his brother get involved, and how long before the war did Caesar lead his people out of the city among SO many other things.
With all of those plotholes and certain things just not making sense storywise, one has to put this at the bottom of the list of the Planet of the Apes films that are worth your time. That being said, it’s still a great time.
You get John Huston in full ape makeup as the Lawgiver and if you look hard enough you get to see John Landis as well. Even at their lowest, these films are incredibly re-watchable and enjoyable. So just because Battle for the Planet of the Apes is this low on the list, don’t sleep on it!
