All 9 Planet of the Apes movies ranked from worst to best
7. Escape from the Planet of the Apes
This is another one of the Planet of the Apes films that fall a little short because of plot holes. However, these plot holes are so big you could drive a Mack truck through them. Yet, it’s still enjoyable.
Cornelius, Zira, and Dr. Milo have ventured back through time to land in Earth’s history with Col. Taylor’s spaceship. Now, how they got the ship out of the water, repaired it, got space suits, and figured out how to fly it and get into space is something the world may never know.
They also say that Dr. Milo was studying it. That makes sense but where was he during the first Planet of the Apes if he is so important? Okay, let’s stop dwelling on all that and get to the crux of the film.
It’s a great fish-out-of-water story of talking, intelligent Apes in a modern society that they don’t belong in. It is really a great, fun story – until it’s not anymore. At a certain point in the film, things go very very dark and things take a huge tonal shift. So dark that it may be the darkest ending of any of the original Planet of the Apes films…yes, even darker than Beneath.
So besides all of the plotholes and tonal shifts, this is really a great film and worth your time to check out.
