Tobey Maguire, the first actor to portray Spider-Man on the big screen, made an iconic run as the web-slinger. But which one of his movies is the best?

Few movies are as iconic as the original Spider-Man trilogy. They completely redefined what audiences could expect from superhero adaptations on the big screen. Watching the wall-crawler swing through New York’s skyline for the very first time back in 2002 was an unforgettable experience that was met with amazing reviews and great commercial success. This was accomplished thanks to Sam Raimi’s vision, groundbreaking visual effects, a killer soundtrack, and of course Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of Peter Parker.

Tobey brought awkwardness, innocence, and strength to the character in a way few other actors would’ve managed to do. It also helped that he looked like a teenager the first time he got to wear the Spider-Man mask, even when he was 26 years old at that time. Besides, he had great supporting actors that elevated his performance. While his chemistry with Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane wasn’t as strong as that of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, it still managed to be believable and truly heartfelt at times. Additionally, whenever he was opposite of James Franco’s Harry Osborn you could really feel the tension between them.

His Spider-Man movies also became iconic thanks to their amazing antagonists. After all, they managed to push the wall-crawler to his very limits. Alfred Molina’s Otto Octavius is regarded as one of the greatest supervillains of all time. Furthermore, Willem Dafoe’s interpretation of the Green Goblin was absolutely terrifying. Every time you got to hear his laugh you knew something insanely dangerous was going to happen. Spider-Man 3 is the only instance where you could argue the villains weren’t as memorable, and still, they weren’t completely terrible.

Overall, the original Spider-Man trilogy was absolutely incredible. It comes as no surprise Tobey Maguire even appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The multiversal adventure brought him back after a 14-year hiatus as the web-slinger for one more ride. But which one of these four projects can be awarded as the best? And which one didn’t hold up to expectations? Well, it’s time we find out as we dive into our ranking of Tobey Maguire’s Marvel movies.
