Ready yourselves, true believers. The gameplay reveal for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is finally here.

It was a long wait, wasn’t it? Almost two years ago, PlayStation officially revealed they were working on a sequel for the spectacular Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4. Since then, they’ve been completely silent about the web-slinger’s newest game. No updates were given aside from multiple confirmations it would release in Fall 2023, and as the release date came closer fans started to wonder when we’d get a new look at it. Fortunately, that time has finally come, and the gameplay reveal for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is nothing short of epic.

PlayStation held an event called PlayStation Showcase where they unveiled new looks at upcoming games set to release for the PS5. While you could argue the event itself was a disappointment, it definitely ended with a bang. A 12-minute gameplay video of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released, and it was filled with exciting action, a terrifying look at the symbiote, and a lot of new surprises to unpack. As if it wasn’t enough, a blog post made by Insomniac Games was also published on the official PlayStation page. In it, there’s a detailed description of everything the reveal had to offer, along with some new details that weren’t present in the video.

Be greater, together

There’s a lot to discuss here. First of all: how amazing is it to see Peter Parker and Miles Morales finally work together? While Peter was the protagonist of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4, and Miles had an adventure of his own in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, this is the first time we get to see them fight side by side (aside from the intro section of the latter game). It seems like players will be able to seamlessly switch characters on story missions, and it’s not a stretch to assume that will also be the case when freely roaming the game’s world.

Speaking of which, we finally have confirmation of a bigger map in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Queens will be one of the new boroughs that players will be able to explore, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if there are other brand-new areas as well. Finally, we also got to see new gameplay mechanics like Miles and Peter gliding over the city with their web wings and new combat options thanks to the symbiote suite. It all looks amazing, and who knows what other surprises await us when we finally get to play the game.

Let the hunt begin

Aside from the gameplay reveal, a new trailer introducing a menacing villain was also released. Kraven will make his debut in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and it seems the hunter will be one of the game’s main antagonists. He will bring chaos to New York by trying to bring down both Spider-Men and a lot of the web slingers’ rouges as well. It will be interesting to see how this dynamic plays out, as Peter and Miles will be trying to save the villains from Kraven while also stopping them from wreaking more havoc on their own.

While an exact release date hasn’t been announced, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will make its way to stores sometime in Fall 2023. Meanwhile, the latest gameplay reveal was more than enough to scratch the itch fans had for more information about the wall-crawler’s symbiotic adventure.
