DC: Batman and Catwoman will fight for Gotham City
By Mark Lynch
Will Catwoman and Batman for the right to protect Gotham City in DC Comics’ newest crossover?
Batman has been synonymous with Gotham City since its creation by protecting the city’s citizens from people like The Joker, Two-Face, and The Riddler. During that time, Bruce Wayne has been through a lot. However, his life got worse during Tom King’s comic book run for the character after Bane and his father (from Flashpoint) broke him .
During that time, Bruce lost his father figure Alfred (during City of Bane), his fortune (Joker War), and, most recently, his hand (Batman No. 134 by Chip Zdarsky). Things aren’t going to get better any time soon. DC Comics announced the Dark Knight and Catwoman will battle for the right to protect Gotham in the The Dawn of DC Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War.
Batman and Catwoman battle for Gotham City
According to DC.com, violent crime has gone down in Gotham City and it’s thanks to Catwoman. The question asked in the article is, “At what cost?” What could Catwoman have done that caused villains to run from Gotham? That question will be answered in Batman by Chip Zdarsky and Catwoman by Tini Howard.
Zdarsky said, “The Gotham War is just that: relationships explode, relationships are formed, and it all leads to massive changes! Being able to take these kinds of big swings together has been extremely exciting.” Howard goes on to say, “On the page, we’ve got one of comics’ greatest love stories: the world’s greatest detective and the world’s greatest criminal. And they both love Gotham City. But the course of true love never did run smooth.”
As reported, Gotham War will divide the Bat Family. Tini Howard confirmed this saying, “Comics thrive on team-ups.” This shouldn’t shock anyone. DC comic book fans know Catwoman can be persuasive and the Dark Knight has a lot of peers to go to. Because of this, fans should expect to see a lot of Gotham City’s heroes and villains coming together on both sides. Among them is Jason Todd.
It’ll be interesting to see what side Red Hood is on. While Bruce may be like a father to Jason, Catwoman’s approach to protecting Gotham City may be the direction that he agrees with. Jason’s never fully bought into Bruce’s way of fighting crime. Although you never know what direction the Red Hood is going to go. His loyalty to Bruce could be the deciding factor.
After this series, Batman and Catwoman’s relationship won’t be the same. However, not necessarily in a negative way. Who knows, maybe this ends with them finally getting married. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow for more on Gotham War.
