A release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has finally been revealed along with its price, pre-order bonuses, and two new breath-taking concept arts.

What a time to be Marvel’s Spider-Man fan. First, we got a look at Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay with a 12-minute video that featured Kraven, Lizard, and the black suit. Not too long after that, Insomniac and PlayStation unveiled more details about their highly-anticipated sequel including the map size and how skill trees will work. Now, we finally know when we’ll be able to swing across the skies of New York as Peter Parker and Miles Morales again.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was among the projects featured at Summer Game Fest, an event dedicated to celebrating the videogame industry. Bryan Intahar, creative director at Insomniac Games, made a surprise appearance and talked about the sequel’s tone, its pre-order bonuses, and who exactly will be behind the symbiote once Venom enters the scene. As if it wasn’t enough, two new pieces of concept art were released, giving us our best look yet at the Lethal Protector.

However, the cherry on top was the brief video used to end the showcase in which a release date was finally confirmed.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 release date

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on October 20, 2023. While that’s not a long wait, pre-orders will go live even sooner than that. You’ll be able to pre-order the game on the PlayStation store starting June 16 at 10:00 a.m. Players that do so will be treated to the early unlock of two fantastic new suits (with multiple color variants) along with 3 skill points.

Collector’s edition

A collector’s edition was also revealed and it includes all the pre-order bonuses along with a steel bookcase and a breath-taking 19-inch statue featuring Peter Parker and Miles Morales fighting Venom.

Eddie Brock won’t be Venom

Unfortunately, no new trailers were released for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at Summer Game Fest. However, the new concept art released gave us our first full look at Venom and Ryan Intahar also talked about the highly-awaited supervillain.

While not a lot was revealed, he did confirm Eddie Brock won’t be the one using the symbiote to wreak havoc and torment Peter and Miles. Instead, players will figure out who he is by playing the game and progressing through its story.

"“It is not Eddie Brock. Our goal was to tell an original story. Something you haven’t seen in the comics and movies yet. Obviously we love Venom for a reason, all those things you love about the character are going to be there. But how the story plays out, who is Venom, you’ll have to play the game to see how it goes.”"

There was an Easter Egg in Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 which confirmed Eddie Brock exists in Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe. However, when we had our first tease of Venom it wasn’t thanks to Eddie. Instead, Harry Osborn was using the symbiote as a means of curing his sickness. This could indicate that Harry will be the one to take on the Venom mantle, and we can’t wait to see how that plays out.
