X-Men: Karl Urban stuns as the MCU’s Wolverine in jaw-dropping video
The X-Men are coming to the MCU in the future and this awesome video of Karl Urban as Wolverine highlights why fans want to see them.
Wolverine could have been introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022. A subtle Easter Egg in an episode of Disney Plus’ She-Hulk: Attorney At Law may have confirmed his existence, meaning that his arrival could be on the horizon.
This came after the first reference to mutants in the MCU took place in Ms. Marvel and a cameo from Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And let’s not forget that Jennifer Walters outright mentioned the X-Men in the She-Hulk finale. Yes, 2022 was an exciting time to be an X-Men fan as it would seem that the long-standing rumors of the X-Men’s arrival may finally be about to come true.
It’s hard to think about the X-Men without thinking about Wolverine, and that will undoubtedly lead to the conversation of who should play him in the MCU. That is, of course, if we’re not talking about Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Logan, as the actor is set to return in Deadpool 3. If that does become a standalone appearance, Wolverine will likely be introduced at some point down the line with a different actor in the role.
One actor’s name that often pops up in those discussions is Karl Urban, and this amazing video highlights why he would be an excellent choice.
What Karl Urban might look like as Wolverine in the MCU
An awe-inspiring fan video from YouTube user Stryder HD has given us quite the insight into what Karl Urban could look like if he were to play the role of Wolverine in the MCU. Stryder HD has produced many stunning videos in recent years, imagining what actors could look like playing certain roles, bringing many popular fan-castings to life through the use of DeepFake technology, and this one is no different.
Using footage from the Fox X-Men film franchise, the video employs DeepFake technology to place Karl Urban’s likeness over Hugh Jackman’s face. As we’ve come to expect from these stunning videos, the result is nothing short of incredible and it really gives us an idea of what Urban would be like as the character.
Fans were quick to praise the video in the comments section, with some even commenting how Urban has similar facial features to Hugh Jackman, which makes him all the more convincing in the role.
Is Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine canon to the MCU?
Hugh Jackman is set to reprise his role as Wolverine from Fox’s X-Men movie series in Deadpool 3. Right now, it appears that this will be just for one movie, and as the Deadpool saga was already set in a different continuity from the MCU, it’s understandable how this could be a one-and-done project. That said, with Deadpool apparently joining the MCU, how does Jackman’s Logan factor into that?
The legendary performer has alluded to the fact that there could be some multiversal or time-travel shenanigans involved to bring his Logan back one more time, so it would seem that a different Wolverine could come into the MCU at some point (just as Michael Keaton’s return as Batman in The Flash will seemingly pave the way for a younger Batman in the DC Universe).
Could Karl Urban play Wolverine?
Right now, it’s unknown who – if any other actor outside of Jackman – will play Wolverine in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity as the role of Logan (or any of the X-Men, for that matter) has yet to be cast. While the superhero team’s introduction is probably still some time away, the references to the X-Men’s existence (and now Wolverine’s existence) will likely continue in the projects ahead in Phases Five and Six.
Karl Urban remains a popular choice among fans because of his resemblance to the character and his amazing screen presence. He is also more than familiar with larger than life roles in huge comic book movie and TV projects. He portrayed Judge Dredd in the beloved cult classic Dredd back in 2012 and he currently plays Billy Butcher in The Boys on Amazon Prime Video (which recently wrapped production on its fourth season).
However, the thing that probably rules him out of playing Logan in the MCU is the fact that he already played a character in the Marvel Studios shared universe, as he appeared as unlikely villain-turned-hero Skurge in Thor: Ragnarok.
Nevertheless, we can dream. And if those dreams look anything like Stryder HD’s video, it’s clear that Urban would be a great choice to play Wolverine.
