The Flash movie 2023 cameos: Is Nicolas Cage in The Flash?

The Flash has opened in theaters and features a number of surprise DC cameos, but is an appearance from Nicolas Cage as Superman among them? 

The Flash‘s journey to the big screen has been an interesting and usual one. It’s been nearly a decade since DC and Warner Bros. first announced a Flash movie was coming and, after a number of unexpected setbacks, the film has opened in theaters where it creating a lot of buzz.

While some of the buzz remains centered around the film’s controversial star, Ezra Miller, there other big talking point among fans is what cameos the film manages to squeeze into what has been teased to be a multiverse-spanning story.

After racing back through time in an effort to save his mom’s life, Barry Allen cracks open the multiverse and lands in an alternative reality filled with many new faces. From a new Kryptonian hero to a Batman we’ve not seen in three decades, the film features some amazing new and returning characters from the DC vault.

Because the film cracks open the multiverse, there is a lot of speculation over what other characters will pop up across the film with the rumor mill churning out a slew of names rumored to appear. Among the crowd is actor Nicolas Cage, who nearly played Superman years ago but never got the chance to take to the big screen as the Man of Steel.

Many have speculated that Cage makes a surprise appearance in The Flash, but is there any truth to the speculation?

Is Nicolas Cage in The Flash movie?

Nicolas Cage indeed makes an appearance in The Flash as an alternate reality’s Superman. The cameo, while exciting, shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as director Andy Muschietti spoiled Cage’s involvement in the film weeks before its release.

In an interview promoting the film, Muschietti revealed to Esquire Middle East that Cage returned as Superman for the film telling the outlet:

"“Nic was absolutely wonderful. Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it. I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon. He is a massive Superman fan. A comic book fanatic.”"

In the movie, Cage is briefly seen toward the end of the film when Barry and his former self are in the Speed Force and get glimpses at the many universes in the multiverse. During the brief sequence, we see Cage’s Superman fighting a giant Spider before seeing the Multiverse collapsing on itself.

Did Nicolas Cage play Superman before?

Prior to his appearance as Superman in The Flash, Nicholas Cage has never played Superman in a movie or show, though he almost led a Superman movie back in the 90s. Cage was cast to play the Man of Steel in a Tim Burton Superman movie; however, the movie never saw the light of day or even made it to the filming stage of production.

Burton’s Superman Lives was canceled mere weeks before filming on the movie was set to begin due to behind-the-scenes setbacks including issues with the script and Warner Bros.’s decision to cut their losses out of a fear the project would not deliver at the box office.
