3. Fear Street: Part Three – 1666

When it came to the finale of this trilogy and the storyline set all the way back in 1666, we expected a lot. The problem is that with this being the final movie, we need to head back to the present day in order to stop the evil and save the day.

What does this mean for the movie and storyline? It means that the 1666 setting was not shown the same amount of love as we saw with either of the first movies. The first two movies spent almost all of their time in the year that they were set in (1994 and 1978). But with Fear Street: Part Three -1666, a good chunk of the story was really set in 1994.

Considering the late 1600s is when the U.S. was legitimately dealing with witch hunts and the idea of evil among men, this could have been a brilliant film. There were so many ways that 1666 could have been done to make it feel like we really were getting a movie set in this time period.

At the same time, it really felt like they rushed through the storyline of 1666 in order to get us back into 1994 and stop the evil. (It makes sense since it is basically one character learning about what happened as if she was there.) It felt like a wasted opportunity and while we get that this was a trilogy and that meant they had to wrap things up by the end of this film, it just felt like they didn’t really know how to give us an easy transition between the past and 1994.

However, just because there wasn’t enough of 1666, that doesn’t mean that they didn’t tell a good story. There was a lot to love in this final film and it is probably why it was a bit disappointing to feel like things were rushed into a conclusion.
